Okay, so this is my first attempt at writing a (or is it an) Haiku poem. First of all, some of you may be asking yourselves, what is a haiku? I will tell you. A haiku is a japanese poetry form. Don’t worry, I’m going to write it in english. A haiku uses just a few words to capture a moment and create a picture in the reader’s mind.
Traditionally, haiku is written in three lines, with five syllables in the first line, seven syllables in the second line, and five syllables in the third line.
I write horror, among other genres, so hopefully my haiku will create a horrifying picture in your mind. Just kidding––or am I?
Here it is. My first haiku. I’m so nervous . . .

I admire the way you have put horror and a haiku together, Vashti. I’d never have thought of doing that so for well done for being original. Most the haikus I read (and write) are about love, sadness or happiness.

Hello Hugh. Thank you very much. I read in a site about haiku that there really weren’t any rules except for the structure of the poem. So I figured why not infuse a little horror into it. I’ll try to write one in the more traditional style next time. 😉

A haiku is not like an anekdote to laugh with but food for thought. If you take it seriously, you may find satisfaction and then the others will be pleased,too.

Hi Gelly, believe it or not I did not intend to write a funny haiku, it just turned out that way. My understanding is that there are no strict rules to writing a haiku, except for the structure and number of syllables. However, I do see what you mean. Haiku is traditionally written about nature and the seasons. I will keep that in mind next time. 🙂

Hahaha! Great way to start the morning – comedic horror!
It’s particularly real as I know I few friends that been through the grueling process of online dating. It worked out well for them in the end, but it takes a lot to weed out the dodgy ones.
