It’s That Time of Year Again! – 2014

Happy Holidays!

Welcome everyone! It’s that time of year again! Is everyone ready for Christmas? I’m not but that’s okay. Ha, ha! Last year it took me a while to get into the Christmas spirit but it’s different for me this year. I guess I have a lot to be happy and thankful for––my dad is still with me, for one. That’s a biggy. Also, after a year I’ve finally found a house. It’s half the size of the house I used to live in but that’s exactly what we wanted and I couldn’t be happier with my cozy little home. Anyway, enough about me.

Even though I’m happy as a clam in high tide and busy with my new house I know it isn’t the same for everyone. So I decided to put together some fun and interesting posts and information that will hopefully inspire you in some way and put you in the holiday spirit. I hope you enjoy!

I found this beautiful and inspiring quote by Edith Sitwell at Mrs. AOK, A Work In Progress. I loved it and I thought you might too.

Music always inspires me and Christmas music can really get those juices flowing. Tricia at The Good Mama put together a great workout playlist of 20 Christmas songs.

I also love movies and there’s nothing like cozying up to a great Christmas movie during the holidays. Maybe with a hot cup of cocoa baptized with a little brandy––or not, whatever. 😉 Erin, from No Bohn’s About It put together a great list of Christmas movies. Check it out!

Some people dread the winter months but there’s a lot of fun to be had. Her Campus gives us a great list of things to do over the winter. 25 Festive Things To Do This Winter

Not everyone travels for the holidays. I plan to stay home this year and I’m sure many of you are too. I found a great article that lists some ways to enjoy the holidays at home. Apartment Therapy lists 9 Things to Do Around the House Just for Fun

Family Laughing with Presents

Children often get restless while on winter break. Parents often find themselves at wits end trying to keep them entertained. Tess from The Bold Life gives us 101 Things To Do With Children On The Holiday Break.  Hallelujah!

Some people become depressed during the holidays for different reasons. One of the reasons being that they’re alone. Well, I found a great post that lists 10 Things to Do If You’re Alone for the Holidays. There’s a lot of pressure to be happy and in love during the holidays when in reality that isn’t the case for most people. Check out this post it’s very inspiring.

I found an awesome Christmas Bucket List on FIKED and I just had to share it. So much fun!

Nicely put together Vashti. Boxing day is when I’ll get to see the family this year. I’m hoping that the mail will be slow so I can indulge in some TV on Christmas Day.

Hi Vashti, we hit the road today and are now in Wales for Christmas and New Year. Most of the family live in Wales and I’m, yet again. doing the quiz on Boxing Day. I hate having to put all the questions together, but it’s usually a lot of fun on the night.

I’m also looking forward to decorating the Christmas cake I baked last month and putting the Christmas tree up tomorrow. I wonder what will be on top of the tree this year? Just check out my blog for the answer, after tomorrow 🙂

Wishing you a very Merry Christmas and a Happy and successful 2015 with your writing and books.

Hi Hugh! I didn’t know much about Boxing Day but I did a little research this year since several of my friends mentioned it. Sounds like a lot of fun. If I mention Boxing Day to my family they will not hesitate to make it a holiday tradition. It’s an excuse for another party, more gifts and food. 😉

That cake sounds scrumptious. I’ve been thinking about it off and on since you mentioned baking it last month. I’m intrigued about your tree topper. I can’t wait to see what it is.

Thank you so much, my friend. I wish you and your loved ones all the best too. Happy Holidays! 😀 xx

Do you not have Boxing Day in the States, Vashti? I’m glad you have found out all about it. To me, it’s the day to relax after all the excitement of Christmas Day. However, my absolute favourite day of the year is Christmas Eve because of all the magic it offers.

I’m going to decorate my cake on either Sunday or Monday and I’ll be posting pictures on my blog. Don’t laugh though, because whilst it looks good, I used a cake tin that was far too big, so it looks like a pizza rather than a cake! However, I’ve fed it with lots of brandy so it should still go down well with the family 🙂

No, I don’t know of anyone who celebrates boxing day here. It actually sounds like a necessary holiday the way you put it. Everyone can use a break after Christmas Eve and Christmas. In my family we have a big party with lots of food, drinks, and music on Christmas Eve. It begins early and ends at midnight with everyone wishing each other a Merry Christmas. It is my favorite day too. 😉 On Christmas, we get up, open presents, have brunch (usually leftovers from the party), and some of us deliver gifts to those who didn’t make it to the party or had a party of their own and others go to the movie theater or both.

Ha, ha . . .oops! I wasn’t supposed to do that. 😛 You’re too cute! I’m sure your cake will be scrumptious no matter its shape. I can’t wait to see what it looks like. I wish I could taste it. :/ Oh well. I hope you share the recipe. 😀

Thanks for sharing this month’s That’s What She Said quote 🙂 I meant to ask you to join me last month, I would have loved to see what YOU came up with for November’s quote 🙂
I’m such a sucker for holiday movies!! My husband and I have been watching them with the kids all season long, but we save National Lampoon’s Christmas Vacation for the two of us plus a margarita and beer 😀

Hi! It was my pleasure. It is such a lovely quote. I love Christmas movies too but I enjoy the funny ones more then the sentimental ones. Yeah! Awesome idea! Have a margarita for me. 😉
