Hello! Welcome! I read this quote and it really resonated with me. We’re living in an age in which people are seldom present or in the moment. So many are glued to their phones, iPads, and other gadgets even while in the company of family and friends. There’s an epidemic of people who are missing out on special moments. One day they’ll wake up and wonder what happened to their lives. What happened is simple they didn’t live in the moment and ‘It’s the little moments that makes life big.’

Do you live in the moment?

I love this quote. I most definitely live in the moment. So many people spend a large part of their lives lost in their thoughts of horrible events from their past and contemplating disastrous future scenarios that they forget to stop – to live in the moment and just be happy.

That is so true. I know people like that. All they do is think of the past and worry about the future. That’s really sad, because someday they will realize that they missed many important and beautiful moments and by then it is too late.

Perfect quote Vashti. Yes, I am so glad to say that I live this. I wrote a post on this exact topic a loooonnnnnnggggg time ago. Hahaha. Actually, I think you’ve read it before even. I probably sent you the link to it at some point. Probably because we both believe firmly in this quote, don’t we?
Have a wonderful rest of the week Vashti.

I probably did read it and it stayed on my mind which is why I chose this quote. Yes, I do believe in this quote. Now, if only I can get my mom off the phone during visits––it’s very annoying. Ha, ha! You have a great rest of the week too. 😀 xx

Hahahaha. Your mom talks on the phone while you visit? Ohhhhh, I can understand why you’d be annoyed.

It’s worse––she checks her Facebook and twitter every five minutes and she’s constantly texting other people instead of being in the moment with the people around her. It’s like a 13 year old in a 65 year old body. She’s gotten better about it though. My brother and I had a little chat with her about it.

Hahahaha. That’s funny. A 13 year old in a 65 year old body. Oh no. I hope she gets more and more better as you and your brother continue to keep her accountable.

What a fabulous quote, Vashti. I really love the idea of living in the moment. Yesterday, I took the day off from writing, blogging, social media, and my phone. I did answer a few emails as it was impolite not too, but otherwise I have an amazing day. I think we all should unplug a couple days each month. It restores and recharges! Love it!!! ❤

That was a fabulous idea, Colleen, and people do understand. When I host big family dinners/parties at my house I always tell my family that I don’t want to see a device in sight. 😉

It was the best day. I feel re-energized today! ❤ Good for you! Tell them to "step away from their devices!" LOL! ❤

Great quote Vashti, advice that I could do with heeding sometimes, as I have been known to live in the past! 🙂

Thank you Judy. Sometimes the past has sweet memories that we enjoy conjuring, but we can create lovely new memories every day. ❤

Having had it brought to my attention a few years back, I do try, but my mind loves to wander so much. I think meditation would be helpful but I haven’t made a serious enough commitment to reap the rewards. My mind is in the future, what to do, where I’m expected, etc. I have moments of mindfulness, my walks alone around the island trails, but in the daily grind, that is where I would like to be able to put it in practice and be more in the moment.

When we have many goals and aspirations it can be hard sometimes to be in the moment because we’re always thinking of ways to achieve these goals. I’m the same way. I too have been called out for being in my own head too much but I’m learning to enjoy the moment especially when I’m around loved ones. 🙂

I try to live in the moment as much as possible. It really bothers me to see everyone on their devices when I go to a restaurant or almost any place these days. People never talk to each other any more one-on-one. They are missing out.

That’s exactly my point. It got really bad with my family at one point but things are better now after a few of us spoke out about it.

This point can’t be made enough. It hits home in so many ways. While driving I have to reel my mind in sometimes–not a good idea to be thinking about blogging while driving!

Ha, ha! It’s that writer’s imagination. 😉 I have been known to get lost and pass my exit on the expressway while driving, because my mind is busy thinking about my story or next article on my blog, haiku . . . We need to stop––seriously.

Then you should definitely teach a class! Seriously, there would be a lot of people that would benefit from it. 🙂

My husband and I were just talking about this generation of “not in the moment” and how texting versus picking up your phone and speaking is just horrible. You are not interacting in what we consider the natural, normal way. It’s gotten really, really sad.

Hi Patty! We definitely need to start unplugging more often. We need more interpersonal communication and it’s important for parents to teach this to their kids but sometimes parents are worse than they are! It is sad, because I believe that this attachment to electronics is causing apathy amongst people. Thank you for sharing! 😀 xx

That is a fantastic quote. I used to totally not live in the moment but as I have worked on my health I have been practice meditation and trying to slow myself down. My favorite is to stop and look at the sky and pay attention to the moon at night. Something so soothing about that which can carry throughout the whole next day. Thanks for sharing at #LetsGetRealSocial
