Writer’s Quote Wednesday – Happy Birthday Dr. Seuss!

1 Mar

Dr. Seuss-The Writer Next Door-birthday

Theodore Seuss Geisel was an American writer and illustrator best known for authoring popular children’s books under the pen name Dr. Seuss.

quotes by dr. seuss

“Kid, you’ll move mountains!”

“Unless someone like you cares a whole awful lot, nothing is going to get better. It’s not.”

“Why fit in when you were born to stand out?”

“The more that you read, the more things you will know. The more that you learn, the more places you’ll go.”

“You’re on your own. And you know what you know. And you are the one who’ll decide where to go.”

“Everything stinks till it’s finished.”

There are so many amazing quotes by Dr. Seuss I could go on and on listing them here. One thing all his quotes have in common––he spoke the purest form of truth and he knew how to inspire a generation with simple words. I grew up reading Dr. Seuss and his words always made me feel like I could do anything. Dr. Seuss’ books encouraged me to be the best person I could be.

I love seuss! My son isn’t patient enough to sit through a seuss book yet (or maybe i should try again- it’s been a few months since we tried cat in the hat) but can’t wait to read them to him. Such wise words, and so much fun to read aloud! Have you seen the burning man video of the seuss book being recited (the places you will go*)?

*i don’t think i have the title right, but you know the one I mean…

Oh yeah! Dr. Seuss is a part of my infancy too. One of the last times I was i Canada I got three Dr. Seuss books for my own kids. One of them being a ‘Big Book’, that actually has a variety of his books in one.
Happy Birthday Dr. Seuss, and have a great Wednesday Vashti.

“But now,” says the Once-ler, “now that you’re here, the word of the Lorax seems perfectly clear. UNLESS someone like you cares a whole awful lot, nothing is going to get better. It’s not.”
    ― Dr. Seuss, The Lorax

Probably has as much impact on who I am politically and environmentally as any other book.

Dr. Seuss has so many wisdom nuggets! However, I recently learned about some of his past racist ways, it was hard for me to fathom. It seems in his later years he changed his ways, and for that I’m thankful for. I wish others would do the same and stop the hate and xenophobia speech.
    XOXO

Really? That’s shocking to me. I had no idea. That starts in the home with the parents. Kids are not born with prejudices. But sometimes, these kids grow up and meet people of different races and after doing so they begin to understand that bigotry is wrong and that all the preconceived opinions that they grew up with were wrong and they change.
The more I read and travel, the more I understand that there are really very little basic differences between people around the world and that being prejudice against a group or groups of people is just ignorant and dumb.
I’m sure that if Dr. Seuss began his writing career with prejudiced beliefs about certain people, he must have changed after meeting so many parents and children of all races and from all walks of life. How could you not? ❤ xx
