Hi everyone! Happy Friday! Today’s prompt words are Shower and Play. They were provided by Ronovan Hester of Ronovan Writes.
Ronovan hosts a challenge that anyone could participate in called Ronovan Writes Weekly Haiku Poetry Prompt Challenge every Monday, and you have until Sunday to create a post featuring your haiku poem. He is an author and poet and also does author interviews and much more on his blog. Be sure to check it out. Read Ron’s Haiku Prompt Challenge Guidelines for more information.

No play in the tub
No singing in the shower
There’s no clean water
♦
♦ The feeling of being immersed in a warm, soothing bath at the end of a hard day.
♦ The splash of children playing in a pool.
♦ The revitalizing swallow of clean, cool water.
♦ The taste of relief and hydration from a clear glass.
These are things we may be taking for granted. Meanwhile, there are many people around the world whose senses will never perceive such things. We are the lucky ones but if we don’t begin to conserve water our future children will not be so lucky.
Nature is always renewing our water supply through the water cycle. So why is it important to conserve water?
The amount of *potable water is less than 1%. Water is found in oceans, glaciers, etc. It takes a great deal of time and money and so on to clean polluted water. Just 2.5% of the planet’s water is fresh. Less than 1% is readily available for human consumption because some of the fresh water is stored in the form of ice bergs.
Salt water (97 percent)
*Potable – Water safe to drink; pure, clean, uncontaminated.
“Freshwater makes up a very small fraction of all water on the planet. While nearly 70 percent of the world is covered by water, only 2.5 percent of it is fresh. The rest is saline and ocean-based. Even then, just 1 percent of our freshwater is easily accessible, with much of it trapped in glaciers and snowfields.”
A message it’s always worth being reminded of. Thanks, Vashti! 🙂

Thank-you, Vashti. Important reminder about the fragility of our natural resources. I can’t believe that companies and governments still dump raw sewage and other pollutants into our water sources. We had one recently in the St. Lawrence River with government approval, ignoring public outcry against it. 😦

I don’t know why things like this still shock me. It’s frustrating and sad at the same time. Both these companies and the government are governed by money. They put profit above what’s good for humanity and the earth. 😦 I’m sorry this happened.

Great Vashti. You know, since living in Brazil, whenever I go back to Canada and see people turning on the tap and letting the water run for a long time so it gets cold, I almost can’t believe it. Or even dish washers. I don’t have one here, and wouldn’t get one. They waste so much water. There really is a large difference between the select ‘lucky ones’ and the rest of the world, isn’t there?
Btw, I have taken a month-long hiatus due to busyness in my life right now. I have to get a ton of stuff done and am stressed out. I mentioned it in my last blog post. See you when I get back.
🙂 ❤

Unfortunately, there are many people that don’t know there’s a problem. That’s why awareness is key.
Take the time you need and I’ll look forward to your lovely posts when you return. All the best❣

Hi Vashti, sorry for replying so late. My life has been a hurricane lately.
You are so right. There are many people that don’t know that there’s a problem. Plus, the water problem in some parts of the world, just aren’t a problem in other parts I think. I could be wrong. I just know that it rains like crazy in Vancouver (where I’m from), so I can’t imagine there being that much of a shortage there. There is often a problem here in Brazil though. Like in the North-east (where I used to live) we had our water rationed for about six months out of the year. This happened for two years because of the lack of rainfall. We would have water fill our tanks for two days, and then go two days without water refilling the tank.
Anyow, thanks so much Vashti. I’ve been trying to get all that I need to get done. Still have lots to do, but I’m getting there. Very stressful, but soon enough I’ll come through it.
Have a wonderful rest of the week.
🙂 ❤

Please don’t worry about that. I’ve had issues this week myself. My dad is in the hospital again and I really haven’t had much time to get online. Thanks for the response and take one day at a time. It’s all we can do. 🙂 ❤ xx

Oh no, really? I’m sorry to hear that about your dad. I hope it’s not serious.
Thank you for the encouragement Vashti, and you also take it one day at a time ok.
Bless you.

Hi Denis! Thank you. I live in south Florida (USA), so there’s an abundance of water here. I’m one of the lucky ones but I do try to conserve water however I can. 🙂
