Haiku Friday – Lightning & Rain

Hello! It is Haiku Friday and today’s prompt words are Lightning and Rain. They were provided by Ronovan Hester of Ronovan Writes.

Ronovan hosts a challenge that anyone could participate in called Ronovan Writes Weekly Haiku Poetry Prompt Challenge every Monday, and you have until Sunday to create a post featuring your haiku poem. **This is my first time writing a Tanka which is a Japanese poem very much like a Haiku except it has two extra lines at the end both with seven syllables. (5-7-5-7-7)

She stood in the mist

Waiting on the same corner

For the lightning train

To carry her past the stars

Where her beloved awaits

    Nice! Makes me want to follow her. I’m still trying to get my head around the rules of tanka.

    two years since lightning
    cleaved the burned and blackened sky
    and past from future
    rain never falls in the park
    where the swingless chains still dance

    I’ve never heard of tankas before but this sounds like an interesting thing to look further into. In a few words, it feels like there’s deep meaning to it. Great stuff!

      Thank you. A Tanka is like a haiku with two more lines added. The added lines must add up to 7 syllables each. They are a lot of fun to write. Look into it. I’m sure you’ll have fun with it. 😀
