Hello! It is Haiku Friday and today’s prompt words are Lightning and Rain. They were provided by Ronovan Hester of Ronovan Writes.
Ronovan hosts a challenge that anyone could participate in called Ronovan Writes Weekly Haiku Poetry Prompt Challenge every Monday, and you have until Sunday to create a post featuring your haiku poem. He is an author and poet and also does author interviews and much more on his blog. Be sure to check it out. Read Ron’s Haiku Prompt Challenge Guidelines for more information.
**This is my first time writing a Tanka which is a Japanese poem very much like a Haiku except it has two extra lines at the end both with seven syllables. (5-7-5-7-7)
♥
She stood in the mist
Waiting on the same corner
For the lightning train
To carry her past the stars
Where her beloved awaits

Great Tanka Vashti. And that’s such a cool picture too.
Have a great weekend, my friend.

Hi Staci! Thank you! That means a lot coming from the queen of poetry. The picture is a bit dark but it goes with the fact that it’s Friday the 13th. 😉 You have a wonderful weekend too! ❤ xx

Ahhhhh hahahaha. I love it @the queen of poetry. You’re too sweet Vashti.
The picture was perfect for the poem, and of course, the day.
Hope you had a great weekend, and please have a wonderful week.

Just lovely! Although I’ve not written one in a while, tanka is probably my favorite form of poetry.

Nice! Makes me want to follow her. I’m still trying to get my head around the rules of tanka.
two years since lightning
cleaved the burned and blackened sky
and past from future
rain never falls in the park
where the swingless chains still dance

You got the rules down, Frank. It’s so dark and creepy. I love it! 😉

The image does your tanka justice. These tankas are quite challenging and you hold the form really well.

Hi Denis! Happy Saturday! Thank you very much. That’s good to know. I wanted to give the tanka an eerie, ghostly feel, so when I found the image I thought it would go perfectly. Thanks for confirming that. Have a great day! 🙂 xx

I just realized my comment didn’t stick 😦
Anyway, I’m quite sure I was gushing over your work, how I think it’s amazing how you are able to paint a story with such little words each week.

I’ve never heard of tankas before but this sounds like an interesting thing to look further into. In a few words, it feels like there’s deep meaning to it. Great stuff!

Thank you. A Tanka is like a haiku with two more lines added. The added lines must add up to 7 syllables each. They are a lot of fun to write. Look into it. I’m sure you’ll have fun with it. 😀
