Magic and Stars are this week’s prompt words chosen by Ronovan Hester of Ronovan Writes.

Many men and women compare themselves to celebrities. They don’t understand that what they’re doing is comparing themselves with an illusion. The images we see of celebrities are not real. They are touched up, photoshopped and lit to perfection. Then they are approved by the star and if he or she sees a flaw they do not endorse it.

I fear for young boys and girls who feel they need to be perfect in order to succeed in life. No human being is perfect. And no one should compare them self to anyone else. No matter how hard an apple tries to be a banana it will always be an apple, and there’s nothing wrong with that. 

People can be beautiful with their flaws.  Call me weird but I’m actually attracted to certain “flaws” or what some may determine to be “flaws”. Here are some things that I find attractive that may be unorthodox.

*I love a crooked smile.

*I find bald men attractive.

*A well placed scar can be very sexy.

*I don’t like skin that’s completely clear and flawless. I prefer a few lines, a spot here or there, maybe a bump or a scar.

*Skinny is not attractive. I prefer a strong healthy body with some shape.

There are more, but I didn’t want to go on and on. You get my point. I believe everyone should embrace who they are, try to be the best they could be and never ever compare themselves to a celebrity.

I understand why celebrities touch up their photos and videos, after all, they are selling illusions. We should understand it for what it is, but we shouldn’t fall for it. Perfection is an illusion and you can be beautiful––flaws and all.

    I have a confession I find bald men attractive too, but only if they have a beautifully shaped head!

    The idea of perfection is appealing, but who is the judge? I agree with you. ‘Imperfections’ make us who we are. And I also love a cracked voice.

    It’s the imperfections that make life interesting… that’s why people still prefer vinyl albums! I like my reality with a healthy dose of reality, please 🙂

    Great haiku Vashti, with a very perceptive storyline and amazing images. maybe you could have included images of Donald and Hillary and my favourite Rupert Murdoch as a balance, (just joking)

      Yes, unfortunately too many people look to celebrities to see what they should look like. Meanwhile, celebrities are rich and they have access to the best plastic surgeons and dermatologists and they get all sort of invasive and non-invasive procedures to look “better”. They do it in secret and pretend that it’s all natural. Then, when they appear on film or pictures they are retouched and photoshopped to the point that they appear perfect and that’s what the average person sees and believes is real, especially teens who try to emulate them. 😦 Thank you, Sunni!

    Whoa!! Some of these retouches are insanely obvious. I hate that kids feel they have to live it up to these illusions.
    It made me happy when Meghan Trainor spoke up about the retouch of her video that she didn’t like. Some people say it was stunt, and even it was, it brought a conversation that kids need to hear.

      I agree. Lately there has been a movement for more realistic and natural pictures and videos and some celebrities have spoken out about this issue which is great but more needs to be done. Mainly for young impressionable minds. ❤ xx

    I totally agree with keeping things real, I hate to think of the many people out there trying to recreate and strive for unrealistic goals of looking like their favourite celebrity, or feeling down because of what they perceive as perfection. I have been guilty of this and thankfully with time and age I have started to accept that I am who I am. Thank you for highlighting this Vashti, I am a big fan of celebrities speaking out and demanding not to be airbrushed. X X X

      I think we’ve all been guilty of the same thing. The problem is that celebrities don’t even look like celebrities, so you’re just chasing an illusion and those people obsessed with looking like them end up looking freakish. Don’t get me wrong, I’m all for people looking their best––key words being ‘their best’. I’m a big fan of celebrities like that too. 😀 xx
