Happy Haiku Friday and a warm welcome to my blog!
This has been a long hard week for me and I’m glad the weekend is finally here. To say the elections in the USA have been a bit tense is an understatement. I also can’t wait for the election process to be over. I’m not a big fan of either candidate but I’m voting for who I believe is the better of two evils. I think everyone should get out and vote. Things may seem bleak but sitting around and allowing others to make the choice for you isn’t smart. No one should feel confident in the way the election will go. Once the coin is tossed there’s no turning back. Everyone’s vote counts.

I am not in the US but I think we all feel the same everywhere. It seems particularly long and nasty this time. We’re all keeping our fingers crossed. Great haiku, Vashti.

Hello Olga! I don’t recall it ever being this bad. This presidential race has been filled with such hate and animosity. Like Stephen King said this election has ‘exposed the ugly underbelly of conservatives in America’.

I don’t discuss politics online. That’s just me. I don’t want to get into it with anyone. But I will say this is the worst election I’ve seen in my lifetime.

I normally don’t either but I do want to encourage everyone to vote. This has been the ugliest and worst election in my lifetime too. It has opened my eyes to a lot of things I didn’t necessarily want to see. I feel like a kid that hears for the first time that Santa Claus isn’t real. 😦

This whole thing has been exhausting. Glad it’s almost over, I’m bringing lunch when I go to vote on tuesday.

Great Haiku Vashti. We in Australia look on with a mixture of disbelief, amazement and confusion, (this of us who think!) I have a first degree in Political Science and recently read an article explaining the peculiarities of the American voting system, how depending on who runs each state means how the electoral boundaries are drawn up, how and where and when people vote etc etc, It was a mind boggling eye opener. Then I read another article outlining the USA is the 34th most democratic country in the FREE world.. Then I think I understood why you are experiencing this presidential campaign. MY selfish problem is our stock market drops each day as we get closer to the big day in your country. I wonder why Michelle Obama didn’t run ???.

Thank you Denis. I’m glad you can understand where I’m coming from now. I’ve never experienced such cynicism, anxiety and stress with any other presidential election in my lifetime. We’re the 34th most democratic country? I don’t even know what that means, really. I’m so embarrassed that the whole world is looking at this circus.

Hi Vashti what that 34 means is that around the world 33 countries are more democratically organised, administered and governed and peoples rights are a key factor as in egalitarianism for instance. Given that probably only a few more than 50 countries in the world are largely democratic countries In a nut shell it ain’t looking good for the USA!! Good luck.

I am an American and am so embarrassed, especially since I live in Europe. This is the most shameful election I’ve ever lived through. The ugly underbelly of America has once again shown its face, let’s hope for the last time.

Hello William! I can completely relate. I’ve never experienced such a shameful and embarrassing election in my lifetime either. Hopefully for the last time, but I doubt it. This election has opened a can of worms. 😉

Well, the outcome was not quite what I expected but it is what it is and there’s nothing I or anyone can do but except it. However, I can still fight for what I believe in and pray that things do not get as bad as some think it will. 😦

I don’t think it will be as bad because most of what he has proposed is impractical. I predict his party will be in trouble on day one. It’s a shame but as you say all you can do is stand up for what you believe and pray. Good luck and god bless.

Commenting after the fact but your haiku still have meaning. It did feel like a coin toss with the head not being too far from the tail. We can only hope that people don’t give up keeping him and his colleagues in line.

There’s no need for tricks. An opinion is someone’s point of view and everyone is entitled to one no matter the outcome. I smear egg on my face all the time it’s great for the skin. 😉
