Haiku Friday – Behold & Eye

28 Apr

Today is the last Friday in April and it is also National SuperHero Day. So to all the superheroes out there, you know who you are, have a great one!

National_Superhero_Day-The Writer Next Door-Vashti Q-Poetry-Haiku_Friday

This is a digital illustration I did of my family as ‘SuperHeroes’. I made posters and handed them out as Christmas presents. This was about 10 years ago, so much has changed since I did this, so it’s bittersweet for me to look at it now, but I thought it was worth sharing.

Behold and Eye are this week’s prompt words chosen by Ronovan Hester of Ronovan Writes.

Ron hosts a challenge that anyone could participate in called Ronovan Writes Weekly Haiku Poetry Prompt Challenge every Monday, and you have until Sunday to create a post featuring your haiku poem. He is an author and poet and also does author interviews and much more on his blog. Be sure to check it out. Read Ron’s Haiku Prompt Challenge Guidelines for more information.

When I was a child

I lifted my eyes and saw

The good in all things

I think sometimes we have to stop and see the world through the eyes of a child. It refreshes the soul.♥

Iron Man, one of my favorite superheroes. It turns out Robert Downey Jr. is a real-life superhero too.

Chris Pratt and Chris Evans are real-life superheroes. Look at the smile on that little girl’s face.

No these are not celebrities or models. These people are real south Florida fire fighters and real-life superheroes. ‘A shirtless set of twins and a salt-and-pepper hunk flanking a striking female model clad in firemen’s bunker pants and a sports bra, Jessica Alba abs exposed. No, it’s not a photobomb, and the young lady is actually not a model. That’s Jasmine (28), a firefighter with the Hialeah Fire Department, joined by her brothers Christian (Miami Beach Fire Rescue) and Ivan Jr. and their father Ivan Sr. (both City of Miami Fire Rescue).’

I love this post Vashti! And yes we need to remember how to see things through the eyes of a child. Then maybe we would notice more of the good around us. Thanks for sharing about these real life super heroes, too.

    Have a great weekend!

Wonderful post, Vashti. It was interesting to see your family as super heroes. Lovely haiku about the innocence of childhood. When I take photographs, it helps me get in touch with my inner child. That childish wonder is still there. ❤

Thank you Olga! I can relate to what you’re saying about taking pictures. I feel the same way. I need to do it more often. ❤

Vashti, I love that you still try to see the good in all things and all people, though it’s far harder to do when we view them with the somewhat jaundiced eye of an adult! I also admire your ability to look for wonder and celebrate it when you see it. It’s something I aim to do as well, especially when life feels dark and dreary, because there is always something to appreciate and be thankful for. Lovely haiku and images too, by the way! Blessings of love, rest and peace to you, my friend, as poignant family memories assail you in the sharing of your personal superheroes. xo ❤

Lovely and soothing words, as usual, Joy. I look forward to your comments. We’re all responsible for our own happiness, so we have to find it where we can. Although, like you said it isn’t always easy. Thank you so much and have a great weekend! ❤ xx

Hi Annette! It was a lot of work but I’m happy I did it. Every time I look at it I remember the looks on the faces of my parents, siblings and nieces and nephews. It was a big surprise. Thank you so much, my friend. ❤

Lovely post Vashti, what a good looking family, so brave looking after citizens when it comes to fire our natural instinct is to run away whilst they run in such bravery. Love the Superhero theme at the moment I am selling lots of superhero cards Captain America, Batman, Flash and Wonder Woman are my top sellers. Hugs Vashti and thank you for sharing x x x

Hello Jaye! I’m sorry for the delayed response. I’ve been so busy trying to finish the last minute prepublication details on my book. I thought writing the book was the hardest part. Phew!
I agree, I’ve always looked up to fire fighters. You have to have a lot of courage and a deep seeded love for humanity, not to mention a SuperHero mentality to risk your life fighting fires. It’s admirable.
I haven’t seen any of your superhero cards. I’d love to see them. Can you send me the links?
      Love ya! ❤ xx

I finally finished my prepublication revisions today! 😀 Phew! That was not easy. Now I have to work on a blurb for the back of the book, dedication page and a couple of other things.
I’m happy you’re receiving a lot of orders. You deserve it. A lot of work and love goes into those cards and they’re beautiful. ❤ xx
