Haiku Friday – Please & Tease

2 Jun

“Some people lose all respect for the lion unless he devours them instantly. There is no pleasing some people.”

~Will Cuppy

There’s nothing wrong with making people happy. I enjoy making people smile, laugh––happy. I love that warm and fuzzy feeling you get when you make someone happy. What I do believe is wrong is when people obsess about making everyone happy. That’s impossible.

Originality is really important to me and sometimes when you think outside the box some people get uncomfortable. I can’t worry about that. When I write a short story, poem or novel my main ambition is to please myself. That being said, it is important to me that people enjoy my work. That’s why I put everything I got into everything I do. But I won’t be shocked when someone isn’t pleased.

“Your need for acceptance can make you invisible in this world. Don’t let anything stand in the way of the light that shines through this form. Risk being seen in all of your glory.”

~ Jim Carrey

Trying to be all

In the eyes of some people

You’ll always fall short

Trying to please all

You were not true to yourself

A mock of your charm

Absolutely, Vashti. Ultimately, by trying to please everybody we don’t please anybody. Love the art. The cathedral typewriter is incredible. Happy weekend!

I totally agree with you, Vashti. We should always write to please ourselves and hope others will enjoy the stories.

Thank you Tina! That means a lot coming from you. 🙂 I believe that all artists are a ‘work in progress’ because we’re constantly learning and evolving. If you don’t believe it read something you wrote 5 years ago. I’m happy you enjoyed the post. The illustrator is Andrew Ferez. He’s fantastic––what an imagination. ❤ xx

Wonderful insight shared here Vashti. It’s not dissimilar to a book. No matter how much we hope everyone will read it, no book will appeal to everyone. 🙂 ❤ P.S. I'm reblogging your feature of me tomorrow. ❤

You’re right, it is the same with books. No matter how well written a book is it won’t be for everyone. Thank you❣️
