Haiku Friday – Press & Touch

19 Jan

Hi everyone! A very warm welcome to my blog!

Press and Touch are this week’s prompt words chosen by Ronovan Hester of Ronovan Writes.

Ron hosts a challenge that anyone could participate in called Ronovan Writes Weekly Haiku Poetry Prompt Challenge every Monday, and you have until Sunday to create a post featuring your haiku poem. He is an author and poet and also does author interviews and much more on his blog. Be sure to check it out. Read Ron’s Haiku Prompt Challenge Guidelines for more information.

My inspiration for this week’s prompt words is Rogue, a member of the X-Men, which goes to show that inspiration can come from anywhere. Here’s a little background on her, for those of you who are not Marvel fans.

Rogue is part of a subspecies of humans called mutants, who are born with superhuman abilities. Rogue has the involuntary ability to absorb and sometimes also remove the memories, physical strength, and superpowers of anyone she touches. Therefore, Rogue considers her powers to be a curse. For most of her life, she limited her physical contact with others, including her on-off love interest, Gambit.

I am much affected

for I can’t lay hands on you

My touch would kill you

Why go on living?

Life’s a hollow word for me

without your caress

Fear leads me to shun your warmth

In decrepit gloves I touch

Thank you, Robbie! I gave a little background on her. Could you imagine what it would be like if you couldn’t touch your loved ones, because you will hurt them? That’s got to be rough. I’m happy you enjoyed the haiku and tanka. Have a great weekend! ❤ xx

Casual observers don’t see the tragedy behind many of the superheroes. Rogue is a great example.

You are right, my friend. These are complex characters that sometimes tackle very real issues. I read that Rogue eventually learns to control her powers. That’s great for Gambit. 😉 xx

Total comic junkie, love the X-Men and so many more. You did a great job with the haiku in Rogue’s honor, sums her and her inner conflict when it comes to love and touch, beautifully! I’m team Kitty Pryde, but I can still enjoy it hehe, great job!

Ha, ha! I like Kitty Pryde too! It’s so cool how she can walk through walls. I wish I could do that, then again, maybe it’s a good thing I can’t. He, he. 😉 Thank you so much, Kester! You always leave the coolest comments! Have a great weekend! ❤ xx

Thank you, Annette! To touch another and to feel another’s caress is very necessary for human beings to thrive, I think. ❤

I have watched some of the movies but I think I must check them again. And I’m not much of a comic reader but great haiku.A sad state of affairs, indeed. Happy weekend, Vashti!

You’d be surprised by the storylines in graphic novels and adult comics. The movies are great! You can pick up a lot of unique characteristics, quirks and traits for your characters watching movies like these. 😉
