Haiku Friday – Quick & Slip

16 Feb

Hello, everyone. Welcome.

I’m sure by now most people have heard the news about the “Florida School Shooting”. For those of you who have not heard, I will give you a quick summary of what happened.

On Valentine’s Day (2-14-18) a heavily armed, 19 year old man, killed at least 17 people with an AR-15 assault rifle at his former high school in Parkland, Fl.. It isn’t known yet why he did it. We may never know his reasons, because the gunman has a history of mental illness.

Needless to say, this is a horribly sad and tragic event. The fact that it took place so close to home make it all the more disturbing for me. So many lives ended–just like that. It’s so senseless. Could this have been prevented?

If you’d like more information: The New York Times

When I wrote these poems I thought of the victims, in particular the kids and their loved ones left behind to mourn.

Grieving

Don’t cry, I’m not dead

I have only slipped away

into the next room

You’ll see me again

And we’ll laugh at our goodbyes

But time is too slow

for those who just sit and wait

So please turn to life again

Thank you, Denise. It’s such a heart-wrenching thing when young lives are taken. I can only imagine the pain the parents, siblings, friends and other loved ones are going through.

So heart-breaking! Words seem lame in the wake of such a mammoth tragedy. While they would ‘turn to life again’…will it be the same ever?

Yes, you’re right words can’t express the true immensity of the situation. I doubt things would ever be the same for the victims’ loved ones or for the survivors.

It is so heart-breaking, beautiful young lives taken, but as your beautiful poem suggests, we’ll see them again. ♥

It’s extremely difficult to imagine what their loved ones are going through right now. I hope they have a good belief system that they can hold on to. Thank you for the kind words, Gwen. ❤

I especially liked the little art that went with it. It made so much more of a truth to what was happening.

Thank you. ❤ I couldn't agree more, Debby! How many times does the same thing have to happen before something is done about it. What I've read about this gunman is almost the same thing I've read about the other mass shooters, almost word for word. What's happening?

What’s happening is uncontrolled gun laws :(. But a new era is dawning and it is now the children, the next generation of voters who are speaking up and out. This will change things! Believe! ❤

I hope so, Brigid. This has happened too many time already. There are always so many red flags raised by these individuals before each incident and they go ignored. Thank you!
