Haiku Friday – Fragile & Heartbeat

25 May

Haiku_Friday-Poetry-The Writer Next Door-Vashti Quiroz Vega-Vashti Q-Son of the Serpent-novel-Fantasy_Angels_Series

I’m happy to say that I’m done with my first round of edits for Son of the Serpent (WIP). I feel good about the book and I’m getting ready to send it out to my beta readers. I can’t wait to hear/read their input. Then I’ll revise the book once more, before sending it off to my editor. So things are moving along.

Today, there are men working on the “curve appeal” of my house. Well, these guys are breaking up the existing tiles and cement, to prepare the foundation for new pavers and landscaping. I’m excited that we’re finally getting some work done to the outside of the house, but you can imagine the ear-splitting  cacophony of power tools, men shouting and my dog, Scribbles barking. I know this is work that has to be done, so I’ll just have to grin and bear it.

I’m also preparing for my trip to Japan in August. I would like everything, including the publication of my book, to be done before I go but I’m not going to hold my breath.

Thank you for stopping by. I hope you enjoy the poetry. Have a wonderful day!

Fragile and Heartbeat are this week’s prompt words chosen by Ronovan Hester of Ronovan Writes.

Ron hosts a challenge that anyone could participate in called Ronovan Writes Weekly Haiku Poetry Prompt Challenge every Monday, and you have until Sunday to create a post featuring your haiku poem. He is an author and poet and also does author interviews and much more on his blog. Be sure to check it out. Read Ron’s Haiku Prompt Challenge Guidelines for more information.

I shall always remember

Your breath on my skin

Fires of love doused with blood

My sweet love draws breath no more

Vengeance shall be mine

I have a heart that does not

know how to forgive

Congrats on upcoming release…fingers crossed for August release! Sounds like you have an amazing trip planned! Loved the poem, really felt “Vengeance shall be mine
I have a heart that does not know how to forgive”. Good luck on outdoor work! I keep eyeing our own broken up cement and think maybe…It does make a great difference on curb side appeal though!

Hi Denise! I’m working hard and staying positive, but you know how these things go. I’m happy you liked the poem. That’s exactly what I was going for. 😉 It’s been pouring her in S. Florida, so the outdoor work has been slow. Although these guys work like beasts sometimes even under the rain. 😮 A giant oak tree in front of our house had done a number on our previous tiles with its roots. I love the tree, so we’re not getting rid of it but its roots were trimmed. Thank you, my friend for the awesome comment! ❤ xx

Oh so exciting! Do tell us all about it on your blog would love to see some photos. My daughter went to Toyko for New Year and had a fabulous time. She is still out in S. Korea and returns home end of August. Can’t wait to see her, missing her so much.

Hi Maretha! I’m thrilled to be going to Japan. I will be visiting my niece and her husband and will be going with my husband, mom and brother. I’m sure we’ll have a blast!
The noise was a real challenge all day Friday and Saturday morning but it was quiet today and it will be tomorrow as well, because of the holiday (Memorial Day). Thank God! I’m so happy you liked the poem. Thank you! 😀 xx

Hi Brigid! I think what has me the most excited about the trip is the fact that I’ll be going with my husband, mom and brother. Don’t get me wrong, Japan is amazing but I’m thrilled with the company I’ll be in. I’m also excited with how the book is coming along. Thank you very much, my friend! 😀 xx

Ooooh, loved the teaser and the presentation, oh, and the Haiku! Great post full of goodies! Your new book, and off to Japan, wow! Love the blurb and funny before I read it and just the Haiku I could have sworn that was Lucifer and Lilith, but it’s Dracul, awesome! ❤ xx

Hi Debby! You’re right, the tanka does remind me a little of Lucifer and the haiku of Lilith, but it’s definitely about Dracúl. 😉 As far as Japan goes, I’m not looking forward to the 17+ hrs flight, but I’m excited about getting to know Tokyo and Kyoto and I’m also excited about traveling with my husband, mom and brother. It’s going to be an adventure––for sure. Thank you! I appreciate you, my friend! ❤ xx

I think I’ll be too high strung to nap, but who knows (the airplane scene from the movie ‘Bridesmaids’ keeps coming to mind). I’ll definitely have plenty of reading material and I’ll probably have stories to work on as well. Plus, I’ll be in great company. We also have a stop in Los Angeles, so it won’t be 17 hours straight––thank God! ❤ xx
