Hi, everyone and welcome to my blog!
◊
Ghost and Hollow are this week’s prompt words chosen by Colleen Chesebro ~ The Fairy Whisperer.
*The catch is that we can only use the synonyms to these words in our poems.
Colleen hosts a challenge that anyone could participate in called, Colleen’s Weekly Tanka Tuesday Poetry Challenge every Tuesday, and you have until Sunday to create a post featuring your Haiku, Tanka, Haibun or Cinquain poem. She is an author and poet, and also does book reviews and so much more on her blog. Be sure to check it out.
If you’re looking for scary creatures and monsters look no further than the bible, especially the book of revelations.
Here are some of the monsters in the Bible:
Leviathan – This creature is described in the book of Job as a massive sea-monster who’s resistant to human weapons, breathes fire, and emits smoke from his nostrils.
The Dragon – Another beast from Revelation, the great Dragon is described as having seven heads and ten horns. He also has a tail capable of sweeping a third of the stars out of the sky. Some scholars identify this dragon as Satan himself.
Behemoth – In Job, one of the Bible’s oldest books, the Behemoth is described as a gigantic, powerful creature that can only be tamed by God. His tail is so large that it ‘moves like a cedar.’
In the book of Revelations there are two other unnamed monsters that rise from the ocean to reek havoc on Earth.
The Behemoth and Leviathan are also mentioned in the ancient Book of Enoch.
Fun Fact: According to the Book of Enoch, Book of Jubilees and Dead Sea Scrolls Noah (from Noah’s Ark) was the first albino in recorded history.
In Revelations, Abaddon is described as “Destroyer”, the angel of the abyss, and as the king of an army of locusts resembling horses with crowned human faces, long women’s hair, lions’ teeth, wings, iron breast-plates, and a tail with a scorpion’s stinger that torments for five months anyone who does not have the seal of God on their foreheads. This angel also appears in the Jewish scriptures and is the theme of my Etheree poem.

Destroyer
(Abaddon’s Locusts)
◊
An
Angel
of the void
he summons his
vast plague of locusts
to make phantoms of men
with tails of scorpions they
sting their victims, so painful the wound
that men shall seek death, and shall not find it

Wow, this Etheree is excellent, Vashti. I love angels and believe in angels. We have been protected by angels countless times. She sat next to me on my son-in-law’s mother’s deathbed. She told me someone sat next to me even though I could see her (must be a she angel, according to Kathy’s description).
I also won’t forget that the one tempting us was a fallen angel. There are enough creepy creatures in revelation that scare me and I don’t want to meet them in hell…
Thank you for the treat of your post.
A wonderful weekend to you! ❤

Thank you very much, Miriam! There are all kinds of angels with different functions; guardian angels, warrior angels, messenger angels . . . There are angels I wouldn’t want to meet anywhere. 😮
Have a wonderful weekend too! ❤ xx

Yes, I know. I encountered an angel in disguise to meet me and answer my secret question. 🙂 There was a guardian angel who protect our house when intruders came. ❤ My husband's friend gave us a wedding gift of a plaque with a saying :This Home is Protected by Angles. I have it hung outside the door for 24 years. ❤ xox

That’s a beautiful gift, Miriam. You simply must write a post about your angel encounters and write a poem to go with it. That would be an awesome post. 😉 ❤ xx

I wrote a poem about the angel in disguise. Maybe I’ll post it soon.
The one about intruders, my husband may not want me to post it.
I wrote a non-fiction story about Kathy for an anthology. Because the details are not 100% factual, my son-in-law was upset, also, it reminded him of his mom passing just four years ago.
Thank you for your encouragement, good to talk with you about angels. ❤ xox 🙂

Yikes! A terrific and terrifying Etheree poem, Vashti … a tour de force! One that will stay with me … especially as darkness descends here in the forest in Sweden at night!
I enjoyed reading the research into the monsters from the Bible … very interesting. This is giving me the shivers!

Vashti, I live in a small village in England but my mother has two summer cabins in the forest in Sweden and we’re here now putting them to ‘bed’ for the winter. How true it is like a fairy tale … wonderfully so and I feel very lucky to experience two such different worlds! I loved your post and your poem has stayed with me! 😀 ps. I have posted about my ‘adventures’ here in Sweden in previous years which should hopefully be easy to find if you would like to see a bit about them.xx
