Poetry Friday ~ Afraid & Grave

2 Nov

Hello, everyone! Welcome.

I’m taking part in Colleen Chesebro’s Halloween edition of Tanka Tuesday. I’m sharing an Etheree poem today.

Author, Colleen Chesebro

Afraid and Grave are this week’s prompt words chosen by Colleen Chesebro ~ The Fairy Whisperer.

*The catch is that we can only use the synonyms to these words in our poems.

Colleen hosts a challenge that anyone could participate in called, Colleen’s Weekly Tanka Tuesday Poetry Challenge every Tuesday, and you have until Sunday to create a post featuring your Haiku, Tanka, Haibun, Etheree or Cinquain poem. She is an author and poet, and also does book reviews and so much more on her blog. Be sure to check it out.

Angel Of Death

She

extends

bony hands

don’t be fearful

The angel of death

where she leads you follow

to your final resting place

into the darkness this night you

must go, lest her cold claws grab your feet

and sharp fangs bite into your very soul

Have a wonderful day!

If you’re a book-dragon like me, you enjoy reading lots of books. Don’t forget to leave a review at Amazon or Goodreads. The review doesn’t have to be long or fancy. A couple of sentences will do and it would mean the world to the author. Thank you!

Terrific powerful and dark poem, Vashti and works perfectly in this format building up the tension! Also a good reminder about reviews. Xx

Hi Annika! That’s what I enjoy most about this style of poetry like you said as you read tension builds with the addition of words. As authors, we all know how important those reviews are, but it doesn’t hurt to give a reminder once in a while. ❤ xo

Creepy description of the angel of death, especially cold claws dragging one by the feet. The stuff of horror movies. 🙂

Hi Olga. I think most people fear death, so this poem plays on that fear. I wrote a short story about the angel of death that puts him (it’s a him in my story) in a more romantic and sympathetic light. https://wp.me/p3eYyj-G1 ❤ xo
