Hello, everyone! Welcome.
I can’t believe it’s been nine weeks since my uterine cancer diagnosis and surgery ordeal. It’s almost like a distant memory, except I am dealing with some residual issues after the surgery/infection. Due to the infection introduced during my surgery I had to take two powerful antibiotics, one of them twice a day and the other three times a day. Taking antibiotics several times a day for so long has consequences. Of course, I had no choice, it was either take the antibiotics or die from septicemia (blood poisoning caused by bacteria).
I wanted to talk about this because many people don’t know that every time we take antibiotics we destroy many of the good bacteria in our bodies along with the bad ones, sometimes leaving ourselves vulnerable to other worse germs. Taking antibiotics several times a day for a month left me with very little good bacteria in my gut and that’s a big problem. Good bacteria are like little soldiers that fight off the bad bacteria and other bad things like fungi and keep them out of our bodies.
Both my primary physician (western medicine) and holistic doctor (natural medicine) agree that a lot of diseases stem from the gut because of all the bad bacteria that enter our system through our mouths. Replenishing the flora from my gut became a priority. Oil pulling is a great way to get rid of bad bacteria in your mouth before it enters your system, so I began doing that too.
If you haven’t tried oil pulling you should. One of the issues I had to face after a month of antibiotics was that my tongue turned white (Candida). I immediately began oil pulling with coconut oil every morning and my tongue is now rosy and normal again. Oil pulling is a great oral health routine.
Before eating or drinking anything, before brushing my teeth I put a heaping teaspoon of coconut oil in my mouth. I actually put it between the inside of my cheek and gum until it melts (it melts quickly) and then I swish it around in my mouth for about 15-30 minutes. I go about doing what I normally do, while swishing the oil in my mouth. Afterward, I go to my backyard and spit it out in a corner of the yard. Don’t spit it out in your sink because you’ll clog it after a while (it is oil). Then I floss and brush my teeth. Be sure to use 100% pure, organic, cold-pressed coconut oil.
There are so many benefits to oil pulling, especially with coconut oil. Oil pulling kills harmful bacteria in your mouth, gets rid of bad breath, reduces inflammation, and improves gum health. I also noticed after about a week that my teeth looked whiter and I had no morning breath.
So, if you’ve been sick and had to take antibiotics be sure to take probiotics afterward to help replenish the flora in your gut. Also, try oil pulling with coconut oil every morning before brushing your teeth. Doing these things have helped me significantly during my recovery, so I wanted to share it with you.

Lovely to see you
Risen from the bed of fear
Making an effort
As you crawled toward wellness
Your pain taught us all to pray

Your poem says so much about the strong woman you are. Bravo, Vashti. As I’m on antibiotics several times a year for weeks at a time I understand the risk it involves. I must admit I’ve never heard of Oil Pulling, but I will now investigate the benefits and discuss it with my specialist team. Thanks for the heads up, my friend.

That sounds great. Antibiotics are necessary but like everything else there’s also a negative side. Thank you so much for the kind words, my friend. I wish you all the best. ❤ xo

Hi Gordon! I’m thrilled to see you here. I’m happy the worst is behind me. I feel stronger every day. I was really impressed with how the oil pulling and probiotics helped, so I had to share. Thanks for the sweet comment.💗

Vashti, I had no idea you had uterine cancer. Several of my family members went through the same thing. I pray your recovery is going well and you have no further problems.
I’d never heard of oil pulling but intend to investigate it. When I was much younger, antibiotics were an issue and I still struggle with problems as a result. More than that, I’ve suffered from Burning Mouth Syndrome for eight years and oil pulling is something I’ve never tried. It might help. I’m going to investigate it and also talk to my doctors.
Wishing you health and wellness. Thanks so much for sharing this!

Hi Mae! It was rough for a while, mainly because of the massive infection I got with the surgery, but I’m happy to say I’m feeling so much better now. I’m sorry to hear about your Burning Mouth Syndrome. I would definitely try oil pulling. I don’t know if it will help but it can’t hurt if you use pure coconut oil. Make sure it’s organic and cold-pressed. Also, burning sensations are usually associated with the nervous system. My father used to get burning sensations and it was linked to diabetes nerve pain. Have you been to a neurologist about this problem? 😊

The nervous system is one thing I’ve been avoiding. I hear the meds have nasty side effects, so I think I’d rather deal with BMS. I may try oil pulling though. I’ve done a few other things that have helped. Wishing you lots of health ahead, Vashti!

So just a pinch between your cheek and gum? (Ha ha!) My favorite probiotic source is quality kimchee and or sauerkraut. Not the kind that’s cooked to death before it’s bottled.

Ha, ha. Just until the coconut oil melts then you swish it around in your mouth. Good sources of probiotics but I would have to eat buckets full to catch up. I’m glad you think about this stuff. 😊

LOVE your poem. ❤ AND I loved that you shared the oil pulling. I, too, use the coconut oil. My naturopath gave me a piece of advice about probiotics… She said that the first one we need to have in our system is Saccharomyces Boulardii. Some have to take it for a year or more before moving on to others. Here's to our best health! ❤

I’m happy you enjoyed the poem, Annette. Thank you for the information about the probiotics. I’m taking 15 probiotic strains right now, but I’ll look into what you said about Saccharomyces. Thank you very much❣️

Thank you for sharing the oil pulling using coconut oil, Vashti. I was on antibiotic IV for a whole week during one of the cancer treatment because the fever didn’t go away. Ten years ago I had no idea of detox of any kind.
My husband eats coconut oil every morning for other health benefit.
Hope you’re recovering completely very soon. I love your poem. Well done! ❤ ❤

Hi Miriam! I have a good friend that puts a spoonful of coconut oil in her morning tea. She says it helps with her cholesterol issues and keeps her regular. There’s so much we didn’t know 10 years ago. Thank you so much for the well wishes. Enjoy the weekend❣️

Yes, my husband pit a spoonful of solid coconut oil in his mouth in the morning. He also puts it in his coffee. I then did some study about coconut oil but haven’t taken it as much as he. 🙂

Beautiful poem about healing Vashti. Nine weeks already? Wow. I’ve tried oil pulling and it did make a difference. I have to do it again. I found it hard it do it for full time. I’m always amazed at coconut oils uses. Yes antibodies heal but your gut sure takes a hit. Glad you are taking care of that too:)

Yes, time flies and in this case it’s a good thing. Do something 20 times in a row and it becomes a habit. At least that’s what I’ve heard. I’m glad you enjoyed the poem. Thank you, my friend.💗

Thank you for this invaluable information, Vashti! I am glad that you not only consult a traditional doctor but holistic as well. That’s a good balance. I love the poem. You have put the sentiment into words perfectly!

Hi Jan! I think it’s a good balance too. Whatever I can do the natural way I prefer doing but within reason. The holistic approach tends to be a little slower than the other. I’m happy you enjoyed the poem. Thank you! ❤

Hi, I knew about the risks of taking strong antibiotics but never realised we could redress the balance by ‘Oil pulling’. It’s something I will research in more depth. None of us know when we will need to draw on this knowledge. Wishing you a speedy recovery.

Vashti, a powerful poem and one that highlights the strength within you. You’ve gone through one frightening time, yet you beat your fear and are sharing a little of your ordeal and teaching us too. How are you doing overall?
As for oil pulling, that is a whole new phrase to me. I’ve gone through periods in my life with heavy antibiotics when there was no option and the side-effects are never good. The white tongue was one and I could have done with this suggestion then … I’m keeping this for future reference. Hope you’re off the antibiotics soon and feeling better.
hugs xx

Hello Annika! Thank you for the kind words. I appreciate you. I am off the antibiotics thank God. I’m feeling much better. I’m going out for long walks with my dog and doing some work around the house. I’m not overdoing it but it feels good to go back to some of routine. I’m sorry you had to go through periods of heavy antibiotics. How did you get rid of the white tongue at the time? ❤

There is a lot to be said of normal and after a period of illness there is nothing better! Really makes you appreciate the everyday. Long walks are wonderfully healing and revitalising and I’m happy you can go out for these. As for the white tongue, thinking back I believe I was given yet more medication and as special mouthwash. Hugs xx

Both of my parents have been on and off antibiotics because of multiple surgeries for years! It’s incredible how many people get infections because of a surgery that should have taken place in a sterile environment. I am a big fan of probiotics and have done the oil pulling before. It is very healthy, and I’m happy that you were led to it to help alleviate the side effects of your antibiotics. I hope your system is well on its way to recovery and wellness. ❤
