I’m back from my vacation in New York City and I think I need a vacation from my vacation––phew! Ha, ha! NYC is a great place to visit, there’s always lots to do and when you’re there you want to do it all. The weather, for the most part, was beautiful which was conducive to walking and exploring. One of my sisters, Kathy lives in Brooklyn (Bayridge) which is one of the boroughs of New York City, so we stayed two days with her and the rest of the time in a hotel in Manhattan. We still saw Kathy almost every day because she would take a train and meet us.
We had some unforgettable moments in NYC, from exploring my sister’s neighborhood, cruising the New York Bay to walking the streets of Manhattan it was an amazing trip. Here are some of the highlights.
BookCon
New York Public Library (this is no ordinary public library)
Yacht Sunset Cruise on the Bay
Arts & Craft Fair at Bryant Park
King Kong on Broadway
Godzilla in 4D
St Patrick’s Cathedral
I’ll share pictures in later posts. In the meantime, I do have some up on Instagram if you’d like to check them out.
And don’t get me started on the food! Italian food is my favorite and you can find the best Italian cuisine in NYC. Angelo’s Italian Restaurant on Broadway right next to The Late Show has traditional NY style Coal-Oven Pizza and a full menu of Italian cuisine––mamma mìa! (This is a shoutout, not an ad)
Now you know why we chose to walk so much. The truth is that my favorite part of the trip was the unforgettable moments I spent with my husband, sister and I got together with one of my cousins too. Making these wonderful lasting memories with my loved ones was everything.
The best things in life
are not things, they are moments
we share with loved ones

Have you been to NYC? What was your favorite part of the trip?
Nice post. I went to NYC in 2004. I would like to go back again.

Hi! NYC is so unique and there’s so much to see and do that one trip just isn’t enough. What did you do in 2004? I hope you get to go back soon. 🙂

Hi…I only had 24 hours so I went to the top of the Empire State and wandered a bit mid town, rode the subway. I did the stereotype gay thing and stayed at the Y. The customs official who admitted to the country from Canada was like judge Judy and warned me to stay out of trouble spots! Yeah I’d like to go back this year because I need to go to Vegas but I’m worried a layover will complicate my trip when I am not recently used to travelling so much.

Oh, yeah. You definitely need to return there’s so much more to do. Take your time planning it, those layovers can be tricky. 🙂

I love New York. I lived in Connecticut for four years and could take advantage of the city every week. Glad you had a good time, Vashti.

That’s probably the best way to live in NY on the outskirts with easy access to the city. I did have a great time but I couldn’t live in the city, there’s too much traffic, crowds, noise, garbage, and unpleasant smells. Like the saying goes, New York City is a great place to visit but I wouldn’t want to live there. 😘 Have a great weekend, my friend!

I know how it goes, Vashti. I was so happy to see my family in Hong Kong back in January. I was close to one sister but we didn’t spend too much time together because she was busy with her son’s wedding. I’d like to go back soon to see her.

I don’t blame you for wanting to return. I hope you can soon. It was a wonderful occasion but I could imagine how hectic it must have been for your sister. I’m sure she would be ecstatic if you returned.
Next time take me with you.😘

I live in New York City’s “backyard,” work for the Big Apple’s schools, and lost count of how many times I visited. Glad you enjoyed your trip!

Hi, Frank! Oh wow! Sounds like you’ve got a tough job. If I had a choice I would live in the “backyard” rather than in the city. It’s such a different lifestyle from what I’m used to but it’s fun to visit the city from time to time. Did you go to the BookCon?

Crowded. Ha, ha. It was okay. There was more merchandise than books though. That was a bummer.

Hi, Soooz! We had a great time. NYC is definitely a unique place to visit. There’s so much to see and do that you’ll wear yourself out trying to see and do it all. I was definitely done after day six––I just wanted to go home. I had had enough of all the noise and crowds at all hours. NYC is a great place to visit but you have to do it in doses. I hope you’re able to go someday. ❤ xo

❤I understand completely about the need to return home. Living in the country has made me realize just how frantic it was living back in Sydney. I have learned to love the quiet serenity of living in a country town.

Sounds like you had a wonderful trip Vashti. I have visited New York twice, once to see around when my daughter was doing her residency at Buffalo, just 18 miles from Niagara Falls. Then to attend my niece’s graduation, four years ago. We have lovely memories of the city.

That’s wonderful, Balroop! We were going to try to fit in a day trip to see Niagara Falls but in the end, we couldn’t. I saw the falls as a child but my husband has never seen it. We’ll have to return and make that a priority. I’m happy you made delightful memories on your trip. ❤ xo

What a fabulous vacation! First, I’ll answer your question. Yes, I went to New York in 1974 with a group of Guru Maharaji Ji followers. 🙂 Niagra Falls was one of the most amazing things I’ve ever seen in my life and going to the top of the Empire State building was another. I absolutely love your final take on the trip and you are SO right. It’s the bonds, the memories, the love we share that counts! Thank you for sharing, Vashti!

Wow! NYC must have been amazing in 1974, the original Twin Towers were built just before that in 1973, I think. I saw the Niagara Falls once as a child and long to see it again. My husband has never seen it but we couldn’t fit it in this trip. We’ll return to see it together another time. We visited the Empire State building on our last trip. Like I said, there’s so much to see and explore that it’s hard to do it all in one trip. Yes! I’m happy you agree, Jan. I believe making beautiful memories with family and friends is what happiness in life is all about. ❤ xo

Vashti, your post is buzzing with excitement and joy from your trip! 😀 How true that time spent with loved ones is the most important and special! NYC is amazing and I visited there many years ago. So long ago that one of the highlights was going up, squashed into a huge lift with 150 other people, to the top of the World Trade Centre. Terrified of heights, just to be there was astonishing and the view of the city was fantastic. Following the terrible events a few years later, this outing became even more poignant. On a more positive note, I had a fun time going to a traditional American diner – and the waitress and I just could not understand each other! Hysterical. Both talking fluent English – just different versions of it! 😀

That’s hilarious, Annika but I can imagine how it could happen. I’m happy you were able to visit the Twin Towers before––you know. I’m curious. Do you remember what you ate at the diner? 😉 xo

Vashti, I can’t remember alas … although it was tasty I’m sure. The whole experience of NYC had me on an emotional high from the very moment of arrival at Grand Central Station! I was on the movie/TV set of my childhood! 😀
