A Nonet . . .

You made me doubt my own sanity

with your consuming gas-lighting.

I am tired of your methods.

I spent my entire life

trying to please you.

A person with

a twisted

Signs and symptoms of narcissistic personality disorder

  • Grandiose sense of self-importance. …

  • Lives in a fantasy world that supports their delusions of grandeur. …

  • Needs constant praise and admiration. …

  • Sense of entitlement. …

  • Exploits others without guilt or shame. …

  • Frequently demeans, intimidates, bullies, or belittles others.

*Tips for spotting and coping with a Narcissist

Plan and Spend are this week’s prompt words chosen by Colleen Chesebro ~ The Fairy Whisperer.

*The catch is that we can only use the synonyms to these words in our poems.

Colleen hosts a challenge that anyone could participate in called, Colleen’s Weekly Tanka Tuesday Poetry Challenge every Tuesday, and you have until Sunday to create a post featuring your Haiku, Tanka, Haibun, Etheree or Cinquain poem. She is an author and poet, and also does book reviews and so much more on her blog. Be sure to check it out.

Is there a Narcissist in your life? How do you cope with a person who has a narcissistic personality disorder? Have you had a run-in with a true Narcissist? I’d love to read your insights in the comments below.

Wow, Vashti. You wrote some fabulous poetry! I think the perfect example of a narcissist is our president. I hope don’t offend anyone but when I read the description his was the first name to pop into my head. I’ve worked for some bosses, that would fit this description too. Well done!! ❤

Hello, Colleen. Thank you! I’m happy you like the Nonet. Oh, I’m sure some will be offended but you have the right to your opinion. The narcissist usually strives for a position of power because it supports their delusions of grandeur. Thanks again! ❤ xo

I know… but I want everyone to be able to express themselves on my blog with freedom of expression. I’m not a judge. 🥰

I’ve met a few as well, mostly professionally, but one wonders about some people as well… Great poem, Vashti.

Hello, Olga! I think many people have small traces of narcissism but a real Narcissist is a force to be reckoned with and a really scary individual. Professionally, they tend to get higher positions. Thank you! ❤ xo

Excellent, Vashti. You’ve captured the innocence of the victim and the horror of the narcissist. The contrast makes me gasp – as memories flood my consciousness. Yes, I know that personality type quite well. Makes me shudder thinking about it. Blessings. ♥

A nice take on a narcissist Vashti. I haven’t met any extreme type but some traits can be seen around us. 🙂

Thank you, Balroop. Yes, you’re right. Many people have narcissistic traits but someone with a narcissistic personality disorder is a monster. 🙂

I have met with many narcissists. They are usually very creative and do have some redeeming values. My advice is to stay clear of them if possible. By the way, some are very well known.

Hi, John! Some people confuse conceited, egotistical or arrogant people for a narcissist. A person with a narcissistic personality disorder is so much more and a terrifying person. If you don’t agree with everything they say and play along with their delusions they will try to destroy your life. A person with this disorder is extremely difficult to deal with. I think I may know who you’re referring to.

I’ve worked with a few professionally and dealt with one in close encounter. They always win because that’s their interest.

Nice take on the challenge and good poem, Vashti.

They are never wrong and they’ll hurt you and then act as if you’re delusional if you confront them. A true narcissist doesn’t have the capacity to love or understand anyone else’s suffering. Thank you, Miriam. I’m happy you liked the poem. 😀 xo

Yes, they think that if those people are fixed, “we” won’t have problems. 🙂 ❤

I always seem to have at least one or two around. Once I recognize them I can distance myself or at least ignore their games. I think these types make it into stories often. Thanks for the great poem and bringing up a topic most don’t talk about it. Have an amazing weekend, Vashti.

These are the most difficult people to cope with and they can be dangerous. I’m sorry you’ve had to deal with these people. Yes! They make great villains. I’m happy you like the poem. You have an awesome weekend! 😀 xo

Hi, Craig. Thank you. There is a “textbook” Narcissist in my life. Luckily, this person isn’t anyone close to me so I’m able to avoid this person for the most part. Unfortunately, I do have to deal with her every so often and it’s very difficult. 🙂

Scary, but so well done Vashti. I have to say, I agree with Colleen’s comment. Sad. And I’ve written a few books on the topic myself. I know the signs well. ❤

Hi, Debby. Yes, unfortunately, you have been the victim of one of these people. It’s difficult to cope with a narcissist as an adult I can’t imagine having to do it as a child and teen. Yes, you have several books that speak on the subject. I love your writing style. Reading your books is like talking to a friend. ❤ xo

Wow, Vashti! First of all, I love the poetry! Wow! You really got to the meat of it. Yes, I was married to a narcissist – my first husband. How did I deal with it? I divorced him.

Good for you, Jan! They can make the process of divorcing them quite difficult and scary. I’m happy you had the strength to go through with it. ❤

I like the determination of your narrator.
I have definitely had bosses like this. Always tense, you could never please them.
I’ve had personal relationships with several too. I always felt they were searching for something they had not received as a child, so though I could get angry with them, I also was always trying to figure out how to penetrate that façade. But I never could, sadly. (K)

We could spend our whole lives trying to do that, K. It’s extremely difficult to cope when interacting with a true narcissist. I’m sorry you had to deal with so many of these characters in your life.
