March is the first month to feature five Tuesdays. So, Colleen Chesebro from Colleen’s 2020 Weekly Poetry Challenge would like us to work with a specific syllabic poetry form.
This week’s form is:
The Cinquain & It’s Variations, (excluding the Tanka).
My contribution this week are a grouping of Reverse Cinquains:
Listen to the pounding of my heartbeat it can better tell you of my longing for you *** My love I dream of you even when you are sleeping by my side and I miss you always *** We fought harsh words tumbled from salty lips fists balled like angry stones sorrow lingered I bled *** I spoke your name and cringed at its sour taste it was all a dream that ends in nothing I woke
Sometimes relationships end badly, and all you can do is learn from your mistakes and move on. Some people argue as if it’s the last time they’re going to see the person they’re arguing with and so they say the nastiest things. Once you’ve crossed that line there’s no turning back. An argument doesn’t have to be the end of a relationship. This applies to disputes between friends, co-workers, siblings . . . We all have disagreements, but there’s no need to leave mental scars. There is a right way to argue. If more couples argued the right way there wouldn’t be so many break-ups. We can choose our words carefully because they are powerful, and if used to cause maximum damage things will end badly. I attempt to make arguments a way to achieve understanding, not a victory to be made. Of course I am human, so… 😉
Stupid question, though one that none of us is smart enough to answer – why is it that Maya Angelou could say the simplest things and yet cut right to the heart of the matter and speak plain truth like few others? Great quote you used.

You’re so right about Maya. I completely get what you’re saying. She has this innate wisdom that’s shockingly simple, but blows your mind. I think she had more common sense than anyone in the world.😊
I’ll be honest, when I was younger my words were like daggers when I argued. That’s how I reacted when I was hurt, but I’ve grown wiser now. I try to keep it civil and I don’t aim to hurt but to clarify. Thank you, Trent❣️ Stay safe.

I hate confrontation, so I always try to have civil conversations with people, even when I disagree with them. I’m a believer of listening with love. It isn’t always easy, but anger never solved anything. 🙂

You’re so right, my friend. I used to be a hot head in my late teens and early twenties, but believe me, I’ve since learned (the hard way) to remain calm and be civil. I now choose my battles wisely and keep my emotions in check.🥰 Have a safe and happy weekend!

This poem touched me deeply. When my husband was still alive, we would have arguments and I would be physically ill until we were okay again. It affected me that strongly. I love Maya Angelou’s wisdom! Thank you for sharing, Vashti! I hope you and your family are safe and well!

Hi, Jan! I understand that feeling. We try to practice never going to bed angry. It’s difficult sometimes, but if we don’t make up before going to bed I can’t sleep. Our arguments affect me strongly, too.
This is one of my favorite quotes by Maya Angelou, but she has so many wise and insightful quotes. I also love, “I know why the caged bird sings.” which is also the title of her autobiography. I’ve been thinking a lot about this quote since being on quarantine. By the way, that book has so many amazing quotes.
My husband and I are doing great. We’re staying home and reading, writing, watching TV, cooking up a storm (I may need to be rolled out of my house once this is over). My mom and siblings are also well. One of my husband’s cousins tested positive as did his wife. He’s hospitalized with symptoms and she’s home. So the coronavirus has hit home, and it’s even scarier now. We’re keeping them in our prayers. I hope all is well with you and your loved ones. ❤

Hi Vashti, there is a lot of anxiety here at a gov level as this virus has gotten into our townships and squatter camps which are very overcrowded and people share water, food and toilets. Gov is now trying to move some of these people to other places – funny how it takes a crisis to get action. We are just spectators in this world-wide play, aren’t we? How are things on your side.

That sounds like a tough situation, Robbie. I hope they can resolve it soon. Like you said, it seems like governments wait until the sh!ł hits the fan before taking action. The numbers of confirmed coronavirus cases in the USA keep rising so we’re in a scary situation. My husband and I have been on quarantine for 3 weeks now. All non-essential businesses in south Florida are closed, and we can only go out for essential business like buying food or medicine. We’re doing okay, but like you we’re a bit anxious.

We have been in lock down since Michael got sick with a virus on 11 March, it feels like forever. I hope you both have an income as that is an added worry for many people. I can work but that won’t help if clients can’t pay so that is a niggling worry. Anyhow, I hope you have a lovely Easter weekend.

There’s so much wisdom in your poem and the quote, Vashti. I had no control of the relationship for ten years until got out of it. Now with my husband, we learn to overlook the little things. In our early years, we argued on the disagreements, but it affected my sleep. We keep reminding each other that we are meant to be with each other from our first meeting. Now we make sure to say “I love you” before going to sleep.

Yes, Vashti. I remember coming home from a vacation, my neighbor passed away in a short period of time. His wife told me her husband asked her to apologize to me. I asked why. She said he said he didn’t mean to tease me. I told her I knew her husband was joking.
It seems like this thought of reconciliation is one of the thought in people in passing.

We had a wonderful Easter weekend watching the live streaming of Easter service and had a video chat with my daughter seeing my granddaughters. ❤

Hi, Diana! I completely agree. Why not teach several Psychology based classes in middle school and high school. I think it would help significantly.
