It’s the third week of the month! Time for a Photo Prompt! Colleen Chesebro’s 2020 Weekly Poetry Challenge

Hi, everyone! Welcome to my blog. I want to start by saying that I’m almost done going through my editor’s edits and the book is coming along great. I’m also working on the book cover for The Rise of Gadreel. I wanted to share an image of her with you today.

I decided to share a lovely poem by one of my favorite poets, Emily Dickinson. In the poem, She Sights a Bird she perfectly evokes the tension of a cat about to pounce.

She sights a Bird—she chuckles—
She flattens—then she crawls—
She runs without the look of feet—
Her eyes increase to Balls—

Her Jaws stir—twitching—hungry—
Her Teeth can hardly stand—
She leaps, but Robin leaped the first—
Ah, Pussy, of the Sand,

The Hopes so juicy ripening—
You almost bathed your Tongue—
When Bliss disclosed a hundred Toes—
And fled with every one—

    Congratulations, Vashti! I enjoyed the interview. I’m currently suffering with that wrist pain you mentioned. I’m not sure if it’s ever going to heal. I love Gadreel! Have a great weekend!

      You’re so sweet, Jill! Thank you. I’m sorry about your wrist pain. It helps to ice it and wear one of those carpal tunnel wrist bands for a while to keep it immobile. Have you seen a neurologist for it? My wrist gets better for a time and then the pain comes back. I think many writers suffer with some version of this.

        My pleasure, Vashti! I’ve been icing and wearing a wrist brace. I haven’t seen a doctor yet, but of course I Googled and I think I’ve diagnosed my problem. The symptoms described in the link below are exactly what I’ve experienced. The pain is quite severe at times. With a book deadline looming, unfortunately I won’t be able to rest my wrist too much, but I’ll try and give it breaks.       I read the article, Jill. Ouch! I hope you see a doctor soon. He/she may be able to give you an anti-inflammatory to bring down the swelling and relieve the pain. Wishing you have a speedy recovery.

    I enjoyed reading your interview, Vashti. Great advice on using the timer to check yourself when writing. I need to do that because I have poor circulation especially me legs. ❤

        You’re welcome, Vashti. Rolling the ankles are good. I sometimes even put my legs on the desk next to my computer!! I’m supposed to elevate my legs as much as I could especially the left leg that has lymph-edema. ❤ ❤

      My understanding of Emily Dickinson’s poem is that the bird escaped. ‘She leaps, but Robin leaped the first—’ 😀

    Gadreel’s image is lovely, Vashti. One day, we heard a noise in front of out yard and went out to see our cat, Harley, crouched as a cat does when they’re going to pounce. She looked at us with innocent eyes, but hubby knew better.
    He said, “What are you up to?” just as a tiny bird’s head popped up between her front paws!
    He made Harley release the bird (uninjured) and insisted she’d just been playing, lol.

      Oh no! Ha, ha! That was a close one for the little bird. Cats are so much fun to watch when they think we’re not looking. 😉 That illustration is exactly how I pictured Gadreel in my head, with the soft angelic face. I’m happy you like it.
