Poetry Friday ~ My NYC Vacation

7 Jun

NYC-New York-Poetry_Friday-travel-vacation-poem-vashti quiroz vega-Vashti Q

I’m back from my vacation in New York City and I think I need a vacation from my vacation––phew! Ha, ha! NYC is a great place to visit, there’s always lots to do and when you’re there you want to do it all. The weather, for the most part, was beautiful which was conducive to walking and exploring. One of my sisters, Kathy lives in Brooklyn (Bayridge) which is one of the boroughs of New York City, so we stayed two days with her and the rest of the time in a hotel in Manhattan. We still saw Kathy almost every day because she would take a train and meet us.

We had some unforgettable moments in NYC, from exploring my sister’s neighborhood, cruising the New York Bay to walking the streets of Manhattan it was an amazing trip. Here are some of the highlights.

BookCon

New York Public Library (this is no ordinary public library)

Yacht Sunset Cruise on the Bay

Arts & Craft Fair at Bryant Park

King Kong on Broadway

Godzilla in 4D

St Patrick’s Cathedral

I’ll share pictures in later posts. In the meantime, I do have some up on Instagram if you’d like to check them out.

And don’t get me started on the food! Italian food is my favorite and you can find the best Italian cuisine in NYC. Angelo’s Italian Restaurant on Broadway right next to The Late Show has traditional NY style Coal-Oven Pizza and a full menu of Italian cuisine––mamma mìa! (This is a shoutout, not an ad)

Now you know why we chose to walk so much. The truth is that my favorite part of the trip was the unforgettable moments I spent with my husband, sister and I got together with one of my cousins too. Making these wonderful lasting memories with my loved ones was everything.

The best things in life

are not things, they are moments

we share with loved ones

Hello and welcome! This is just a short post to let everyone know that I will be on vacation for the next week. You won’t see me a lot on social media this week––hopefully not at all––but I doubt it. Anyway, I’m on vacay and will take advantage of this time to relax, read and do a lot of writing. In the meantime, you guys stay well and safe and have fun! I’ll be back in about 7 days.

Haiku Friday – Wrapped Up In An Adventure!

27 May

Hello everyone! Due to my current situation (lost in wonderland and stuck in the web of vacation) there will be no ‘Haiku Friday’ today. Don’t worry about me though, I’ll find my way home soon enough. I’ll be back next week full force! In the meantime, thank you for stopping by and enjoy the weekend!

Writers Quote Wednesday – FREEDOM

25 May

Happy Wednesday everyone! The theme for this week’s quote is ‘Freedom’. Ron’s prompt could not have been better for me this week since I’m on vacation and I feel free! 😉 Today is the first time I’ve touched my laptop since Friday and it felt so freeing to unplug. I haven’t done that in too long. Although to be honest I have done a few social media entries on my iPhone but that has been while in the car (not driving) going from one place to another. I get restless in the car if I’m not driving. Anyway, it has been minimal. Now I have about 400 emails pending but I’m not stressing over that. I’ll deal with it later. I’ve become an expert at catching up. Today I wanted to post my Writers Quote Wednesday post, so I’ll get to it.

The most important kind of freedom is to be what you really are. You trade in your reality for a role. You give up your ability to feel, and in exchange, put on a mask.

~Jim Morrison

“Without new experiences, something inside of us sleeps. The sleeper must awaken.”

~Frank Herbert

“The vacation we often need is freedom from our own mind.”

~Jack Adam Weber

“I feel free, that’s what I want to feel every day of my life. Freedom.”

Happy New Year!

Hello and welcome to my blog! I’ve been away on vacation and haven’t been able to post much in the last week or so. Next week I’ll be back on my regular schedule. However, I would like to wish happiness, good health and prosperity for 2014 to all my fans and followers. Best wishes to you and your loved ones in the new year and for all the years to come!

Below I’m sharing a few highlights of my vacation in Central Florida at the Gaylord Palms Hotel…

Alligator Springs

I saw the Ice Show. Gaylord Palms flew in ice sculptors from Thailand to create an icy wonderland of sculptures. I was given a coat to put on while in the area of the ice sculptures (8 degrees fahrenheit). Burrr.

I also visited Gingy’s house where you’re given a kit to make your own gingerbread family!

Below is the gingerbread family that I helped make.

One of my cookies came to life, escaped and hid between the cushions on my bed.

As I continued to enjoy my hotel stay I had no idea that Gingy (it’s the name I gave my gingerbread cookie) had a plan of his own.

Gingy made himself comfortable in my bed and used up all my pillows!

In the morning he had the nerve to use my toothbrush! After that there was no stopping him. He followed me everywhere I went.

I stepped away for a moment and Gingy drank all of my hot cocoa (baptized with Brandy).

He insisted on playing cards with us. He ate, ate and ate (and had horrible table manners)! He even had the nerve to surf the web on my laptop (NO ONE touches my laptop)!

After a while he grew on me and I learned to accept the little menace. Ha,ha!

All the best!
