Haiku Friday – Beast & Day

6 Mar

Hello! A warm welcome to my blog. Thank you for visiting. Today’s prompt words for Haiku Friday come from RonovanWrites Weekly Haiku Poetry Prompt Challenge. Anyone can participate in Ronovan’s weekly haiku challenges (Mondays). It’s fun and his prompt words always tests one’s abilities. Today’s prompt words are Beast and Day.

When I read the words they immediately made me think of the new Avengers movie The Avengers: Age of Ultron coming May 1st, 2015. Yes––I’m a big “geek girl”. I can’t wait to see it! Anyway, here is my haiku. I hope you enjoy it.

Ö

Avenger and Defender

Man of science and art

Nerd Disclaimer: I know Beast will not be in the Avengers movie but once upon a time he was part of the Avengers in Marvel comics. So the prompt word “Beast” made me think of him.

Are you excited about the new Avengers movie? Who’s your favorite hero? Who’s your favorite X-Men? Did you read Marvel comics? Are you a geek? Are you a nerd?

Blimey Vashti, fancy asking questions like that. I think when I was young Guttenburg had just started his press. Actually I don’t much remember Marvel comics until much later, I can only recall DC comics holding my interest. Of those Superman was obviously the main one but I remember adverts the most. There were always adverts for things like X-RAY specs and Daisy BB rifles or on the back the opportunity to buy WWII jeeps for ridiculously small amounts. As a kid in the UK they used to fascinate me.

Ah, ha, ha, ha! Really? You’re not that old! You probably don’t remember Marvel comics because in the 50s it was called Atlas Comics for whatever reason, then they switched back to Marvel in the 60s. Superman was one of my favorites growing up (maybe because he reminded me of my dad). Batman became my favorite later on, and then back to Superman. I keep flipping back and forth and now there’s a movie coming out featuring both of them and I have to pick one or the other. Dang! Why do they make life so difficult! Ha, ha. Wow, could you imagine what all that stuff would be worth now. A lot of money. Did the X-RAY specs work? 😉 *Hugs & Kisses*

No, never heard of Atlas comics. Maybe they never made it over the pond. I don’t know about the x-ray specs either as the postage would have been bad, though not as bad as it would have been if I’d ordered a jeep which I fancied (despite being too young to drive)

I guess you may be right about Atlas not making it across the pond. Oh yeah! What kid didn’t want a jeep growing up. 😀

What’s the ladies name with the red hair and phsychic abilities that they call the pheonix in the second X men movie?

Her, cause pheonix. and just the shear power she has.

Hi Serins! You’re talking about Jean Grey who becomes Phoenix. Her abilities, telekinesis and telepathy, are amazing. She could read your mind and control it. She could also alter or erase your memory and induce paralysis. She can actually do a lot more but if I get into it I’ll be writing all day. 😉 Great choice.

I have become fond of superheroes later in life. When I was young I can’t remember reading any, other than some of The Fantastic Four. Now I’m not sure I know…I’ll have to think about it…

Hi Olga! The Fantastic Four are a great superhero team. Stan Lee (Stanley Martin Lieber) is a genius! Love that old man (he’s 92). 😀 Let me know after you think about it. 😉

    I am not a nerd! I am a surfer!

…Do not tell anyone but I am excited about the new Avengers movie as well. Call me boring but no matter how you slice it…Wolverine is about the best of the X-Men. I am also interested in seeing how they are going to present Aquaman. A far cry from the blonde ken doll in the old cartoons.

    What is on your radar?

Um. Yeah––you’re definitely not a nerd. Aquaman is a DC comic hero not Marvel. He will not appear with the Avengers. However, he will be in the new DC movie ‘Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice’, which I’m also dying to see. Like you, I am also excited to see the aquatic special effects. Also, Jason Momoa will be playing Aquaman and that’s exciting in and of itself. Check out what he’ll look like in the movie on my Twitter page. 😉

Ha ha ha! You schooled me! 🙂 I was not even thinking about one being from DC and the other from Marvel. Duuuuuuh.

Ok…let me ask you this question. What do you think of reboots in which they kill off the hero? Which forces something to happen such as they are brought back because their soul was saved by a old shaman in a hidden lair. Or do you think the story line should not be so far removed from the original series?

Ha, ha! Killing off the hero would be something most people would not be able to swallow. Maybe the hero can lose his/her identity or powers for a while, but that has been done. I don’t know. It’s a unique idea.

It is crazy because in the comics, it has happened. In some series, for example, The Justice League, Batman, Superman, and some others were killed. It was not always that they were killed in a traditional way such as an alternate timeline was created and the hero was killed off in the alternate timeline.

For me, I am all for creative licensing but I like when they stick close to the script. I could not imagine someone trying to rewrite Carrie for example, and then they reveal that Carrie is an alien and she lives through the prom and becomes the President of the United States. It is muddling up a great story written by a great author.

Thankfully the movies do not go that crazy. I hope. I am worried about the Mad Max movie.

You’re right about the comic books. But the superheroes are only gone for a while. They always return. In a movie is different I guess. Ha, ha! That alternate Carrie plot is crazy! I’m with you all the way though. I hate going to watch a movie based on a novel and for it to be nothing like the book. It’s very disappointing––to say the least. Why are you worried about the Mad Max movie?

This is going off on a tangent but movie wise…I really love the first low budget Mad Max and The Road Warrior. The thing I like about Mad Max is the people still had jobs and were human. Road Warrior had crazy characters but was not off the deep end. This movie looks visually exciting but seems so far fetched compared to Mad Max that I think they might be losing sight of what made the first two so good.

Maybe once it comes closer to the release date then something will change my opinion. Cars getting sucked into a vortex and people on giant swinging poles attached to cars is not helping at the moment.

I hate to say it but I’ve not seen any of the Avengers movies, Vashti. Now your haiku makes me want to watch them, so I’ll look out for them when they come to a TV screen near me soon.

My Superhero was the Bionic Man (if you can call him a superhero?) When I was younger I wanted to be Lee Majors so much. I wonder what ever happened to him?

I remember when I was a child my brother’s barber had stacks and stacks of the comics for us children to flip through. Fond memories. Now I have purchased old (original?) X-men dvd’s for my own children. The current movies are great. My fave would have to be Wolverine, hubba, hubba… 😉
