Hi everyone! Today I’m participating in Colleen’s Writer’s Quote Wednesday. Check out Colleen’s blog, Silver Threading, for some great quotes, poems, and articles. Today I’m sharing one of my favorite quotes by author Ursula K. Le Guin. I appreciate my readers very much and when I post a story it gives me great pleasure to read their comments. I especially love when they mention my characters by name––it annimates them. The illustration I used for this quote is my concept brought to life by artist George Miltiadis. It’s amazing to see the characters you made up in your head materialize in art.
The above characters are from my Fantasy Angels Series. The 1st book in the series, The Fall of Lilith, will be out later this year.

What a great illustration. Doesn’t it make you want to listen to the story of these characters?
I like the quote too. It is so true. But I would take it further and craft a similar quote about the spoken word. Stories passed through generations by word of mouth have such great potency. Even in the modern world, listening to an author speaking her own words, her own stories, has great power, don’t you think?

I always love the artwork you post. Very unusual.

Hi Sunni! Thank you very much. The characters portrayed in this illustration are the characters from my Fantasy Angels Series.
No, I’m afraid not. I’m having enough trouble keeping up right now but it does sound like fun and a great exercise. 🙂 Are you participating?

Thanks Michelle! George did a great job portraying my characters. He was a good listener. They turned out the way they were in my head and the way I had described them in my book.

I’m going to show this quote to my niece, because she writes but won’t let anybody read her work.
Great quote, Vashti, for all those that choose to hide their work away for what ever reason.

Hello Hugh! I can’t imagine writing a story and not allowing anyone to read it. What’s the point in that? It makes me wonder what the reasons may be. We writers are a nick-picky bunch. I never feel like I’m finished with a story but I force myself to put it out there. To me this quote is more about appreciating our readers. 🙂

I’m going to try and talk to her about it over the Easter weekend and try and find out why she won’t let anyone read her work. I’m guessing there is a reason. Probably fear of rejection.

That’s a great idea, Hugh. I was thinking the same––fear of rejection. I was a bit like that when I was younger.

I am fascinated by your characters. The setting is the ocean? That is a great quote.

Thank you. The characters are coming out of the book. Fornues, The black octopoda-looking monster is crashing through the frozen Arctic Ocean, The blond merman, Dagon, is coming out of the Mediterranean Sea, while Samael and Dracul are escaping between the pages of the book. Gadreel was the first to escape and is flying above them. The setting starts in Heaven and then continues on a primitive Earth.

Okay, I see all that now! Great visual, ‘infected by art’ such a fab name for his website too.

He’s a professional and a very nice guy. He had to be so patient with me. I felt every detail about the characters had to be the way I envisioned it in my head and described in my book. Poor thing––but he did a great job. 🙂
