Haiku Friday – Tide & Flesh

2 Oct

Hello everyone! Happy Haiku Friday! This week’s prompt words are Tide and Flesh. The words were provided by Ron of RonovanWrites. Ronovan is a writer and poet and he also does author interviews and much more. You can read some of his poetry and fiction pieces on his blog. He also hosts RonovanWrites Weekly Haiku Poetry Prompt Challenge every Monday. Anyone can participate and he even teaches you what haiku poetry is and how to write it if you don’t already know.

I went a little macabre this week but when I read the prompt words I couldn’t help but think of the mob.

Unfortunately when one looks sincerely at the world, there will always be times when the macabre arises. Great haiku.

You had me at “Cosa Nostra”… love it! Nothing wrong with using poetry for the macabre, in my book 🙂

Putting the mafia reference to one side, your Haiku (like Judy’s of Edwina’s Episodes) reminds me of what’s happening in the Mediterranean at the moment – here is a brilliant play on the subject you might like – harrowing but well worth a listen: http://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/b06c0ch5#play

Eeeks, I am going to pretend that man is just floating on his back enjoying the sunshine and taking a break from doing the backstroke! 😉

Ha, ha. No problem. Actually, that’s exactly what the picture is. I used a picture of a guy leisurely floating in the sea because floating cadavers are really gross looking––grey and bloated––yuk! 😉

What an unusual approach to tide & flesh. Quite shocking. It made me laugh. Can’t explain why but found the macabre humorous. It’s probably from all those police procedural shows I watch, like Bones, always at dinner time with finding the grossed out bodies. I usually cover my eyes and ask my partner, “Is it over yet. Can I look now?” Wow! What a great imagination. jk 😉

Oh! How was it? I’m dying to see it. You should write a review on it on your blog. I’d love to read it. (No spoilers though) 😉

Great haiku Vashti, leaving the reader to imagine what they want to. Australia had a Prime Minister who disappeared while snorkelling in 1967, his flesh never re-appeared though and the mob were not involved although one conspiracy had a Chinese submarine involved!!

A Chinese submarine? Wow! Now that’s a thriller. Thank you Denis! I’m glad you like it. 🙂
