My Friday Post

8 Jul

Hi, everyone! It’s been a while since I posted anything here. I apologize for that. I’d been dealing with certain issues—problems that interfered with my ability to write or blog. Things are improving, and I have begun writing again. I’m currently working on my next book, a crime thriller. If you’re an author and have written a crime thriller I would appreciate any advise or tips you care to leave in the comments below.

I had hoped that the first post on my blog would be a cheery one, but I was compelled to speak out on the overturning of Roe vs. Wade. Let me start by saying, I’m a Christian. I’ve never had an abortion; on the contrary, my husband and I tried for years to conceive a child and never did. I have worked in the OB/GYN field of medicine for years and witnessed how some women used abortions as if it were a type of “Planned Parenthood.” They’d come in every few months with, “Oops, my bad. I got pregnant again.” Giggles. Well, it wasn’t funny to me. Having an abortion is not a form of contraceptive. On the other hand, I also witnessed twelve and thirteen year olds forced by their religious parents to carry a baby to full term despite the danger on the pregnant child, “Because it’s God’s will.” Some of those girls were raped by family members. We had a thirteen-year-old who had placenta accreta, almost hemorrhaged to death after giving birth, and had to have her uterus removed.

I also watched as some women gave birth to baby after baby without being financially or mentally fit to do so. I actually heard one woman say, “As long as the government keeps payin’ for them, I-ma keep popin’ them out.” Her four kids were wearing rags that hardly fit, ran around the waiting room like little wild animals, touching everything, one of them was sneezing and coughing on everyone (including other pregnant women), and they were all screaming at the top of their lungs. Meanwhile, she sat reading a magazine while everyone else looked after her kids. She didn’t seem to have a maternal bone in her body, but yet she kept having kids for the rest of us to support. I know it isn’t PC to say these things, but it’s the truth.

I remember another case in which a woman insisted on carrying her pregnancy to term, although, her doctor advised against it. She had a condition and a pregnancy would complicate the disorder or cause her and/or her baby to die. She wanted a child so badly she decided to chance it. She gave birth to a healthy, beautiful baby girl and immediately began to wither away. Despite her doctors doing everything they could, even ordering medication for her from Europe and paying for it out of their own pockets, she died before her baby turned six months old.

I’ve witnessed these things and will carry them with me for the rest of my life. And because of everything I’ve experienced, I am extremely confused and don’t know how to feel about abortions. But there’s one thing I know for sure; the overturning of Roe vs. Wade is a step backward for all women. A basic right was taken away from us.

Although I never had an abortion and at this point in my life never will; I still feel that no one has the right to take that choice away from other women. After all, if God gave human beings free will so that we may choose our own way, who are these people to take that right away? God must hate many of the choices we make, but he still allows us to make them.

I welcome all opinions. Please feel free to comment on whatever you’d like in the comment section below. Thank you for visiting my blog and have a fabulous day.

It’s good to see you back, Vashti! Your arguments weigh heavily for AND against Roe v Wade. That’s why choice in these situations will never die, no matter how the justices rule. Women will continue to decide what is best for them. This latest ruling, in my opinion, takes away safety and will ultimately put more women at risk for death.

Hi Linda! It’s great to see you here too! You’re absolutely right. I hope our right to vote and drive a car isn’t next because we seem to be going backward when it comes to women’s rights in this country. 🙂 xo

I am glad you are back to writing and blogging! Good luck with your book!
I am not for abortion, but 100% pro-choice. I have heard cases similar to the ones you mentioned here. Very sad, and I do think we have taken a step backwards.
Hopefully you’ll have something cheerier for your next post, but reading the news, I’m not so sure… 😉

Thank you, Trent! I can completely relate to that. It’s very sad, and we’ll probably here about worst cases moving forward. Young women trying to give themselves abortions or turning to the black market for alternate procedures done by unlicensed quacks looking to exploit them. 🙂

Happy to see you back, Vashti! I can’t disagree with a word you said. It is not something I ever had to decide about for myself, but if I ever needed to the choice would be there. I worry when politics and religion blend together, because then our freedom and free will is taken from us because of what others believe in. This may only just be the beginning in our backward motions.

That’s exactly what I’m afraid of, Denise. What’s next? Our right to vote or drive? It’s a scary situation. I also worry about the blending of politics and religion. Those two worlds should be kept apart. Thank you, my friend. 🙂

I’m so glad to see your post today, Vashti. I, too, have struggled with this. As a Christian, as a woman, and as someone that has never had the blessing of my own child. It’s a struggle for sure because we simply don’t always have the right answers. You’re the first I’ve seen speak out on the same level as me. I’m not filled with hatred for either side, but goodness I’ve seen such hate come from others and it’s heartbreaking. We’re such a divided society even though we’re all entitled to our own opinions and thoughts. Thank you for sharing with us, the good and the bad because all sides are equally important.

Hi Marlena! I’m glad we’re on the same page. It’s a sad and frightening situation for sure. As long as we’re divided we’re going to continue going backward instead of forward as a nation. I hope all your wishes come true, my friend. ❤

Welcome back, Vashti. I completely agree with you that no government anywhere should dictate what a woman chooses to do with her body. And yes, the Supreme Court ruling set women back a hundred years. I keep getting flashes of The Handmaid’s Tale.

Yes! The Handmaid’s Tale did come to mind. What a terrifying thought. If they can get away with overturning Roe, what’s next? Thank you for the warm welcome, my friend. Have a fabulous rest of the day and weekend! 🙂

Vashti. I too am glad you are felling good enough to write and blog again. Life is complicated, and so are matters of health and choice. Religious beliefs differ, and many have no religious affiliation at all. You have expressed the matter clearly and wisely I think. This is not the concern of government. (K)

Happy to see you back. Hope you’re feeling much better. This was one of the most well thought out posts I’ve seen on the subject. I’m a bit more pragmatic about some of this. I looked at this as settled law. Why go back in time. We might as well re-fight the Civil War next. There are so many problems that Washington should be dealing with that I was really disappointed in the decision. I also love your artwork. You should have your own comic.

Hi Craig! You brought up a great point. With all the problems in America today, like the mass shootings to name one of many, why overturn something that’s been established for fifty years? I don’t get it. Thanks for your awesome comment. I’m happy to see you too!🥰

Oh, I’ve missed that beautiful face! 😉 XO (I absolutely love your facial artwork!) I completely agree with everything you’ve said. There will always be women who make poor choices, but everyone should be free to make that choice.Unfortunately, we live in a society where some religious people have convinced themselves they are responsible for other people’s choices.

They also seriously misunderstand the teachings in their religion. They believe they have the right and duty to condemn those who do not follow their religion’s rules. They also forget that this nation is NOT a Christian nation but one that values freedom of religion, which also means that one religion’s rules should not and are not the law of the land. Somehow, politicians have chosen to blur those lines to keep the power. And we are on a slippery slope downward as long as voters allow those lines to be blurred. 😥

I believe each individual is responsible for their own actions. And you’re absolutely right, this is a slippery slope. I’m terrified of our future as women. What’s next? What other rights will we lose?

Welcome back, Vashti! Good to see you. I saw your comments on some blogs, so I came over to see if you’re back! Thank you for your honest and sincere voice on the abortion issue. I’ve seen many situations such as you mentioned. I feel sorry for the baby raising babies. I also feel sorry for the women who risk their own lives to have kids or are pregnant with abnormal babies.
I look forward to hearing more about your new book! My new book will be released shortly! I’ll be doing the corrections when my final editing comes back in a couple of days. I’ll be busy formatting next week.

HI Vashti, it is lovely to see a post from you and I am glad you are writing again. Like you, I don’t like abortion, but still I believe in it. Those girls and women who use abortion as a form of contraception are irresponsible and it is better they do not become mothers. I have to think of the children first and consider what it means to for society when children are neglected and ignored and basically left to become a part of the same cycle of poverty their mothers belong too.

Hi Robbie! Thank you very much.🥰
Well said. I completely agree. Not every woman should be a mother, and the children should be thought of first. It’s a vicious cycle sometimes.

What a sensitive and thoughtful post, Vashti. If you demonstrate one thing clearly, it’s that there is no one size fits all solution to the controversy over abortion. Banning it across the board not only jeopardizes women’s heath and futures, but assumes that all women are unable to make wise decisions for themselves and their families. Glad to see you back and hear that you’re writing! Take care and sending you giant hugs. ❤

Hi Vashti, this is a difficult and sensitive subject, I think you have covered it so well. In the U.K. Abortion is legal and I too am a Christian but have always felt it was the safest avenue. If a woman/young girl is desperate to abort a child they will find other ways. There are horror stories of backstreet abortions and butchery.

On the subject of people using it as a form of contraception I agree with you. I am torn and uncomfortable about a law that takes away a woman’s right about what to do re their body. I think abortions should be treated case by case. Women who are frequently having them should be educated and be given some home truths.

A difficult subject and I wonder about the psychological affects on women forced to a child that is the result of rape, abuse etc.

I am glad you are writing again Vashti and May things go from strength to strength for you, lots of love Jaye Xoxox

Hi Jaye! What a wise and insightful woman you are! I’m happy to see you here. You bring up a great point. Women should be educated about abortions, so that they may make wise decisions. I don’t think any woman should be comfortable with the decision to overturn Roe, whether they believe in abortions or not. Because we have to think about what’s next. What other rights are they willing to take away from women?
Thank you for your lovely wishes and comment, my friend! Much love! 🙂 ❤

It’s so good to know you are feeling stronger and writing again, Vashti. I’ve missed you. 💗 Your post is well-articulated. After 30+ years in higher education administration, I’ve seen just about everything. Abortion is a tragedy but sometimes a necessity. I wish people could step back and listen to the sorrows on both sides and somehow find a middle ground. But, these days, there’s only a battleground. Bless you. 🤗

You couldn’t have said it better, Gwen. A middle ground would probably have been the best decision—deal with it on a case by case basis. Maybe even update Roe but definitely not overturn it. I guess we American women were only fooling ourselves with thinking we had come a long way.
Thank you for your kind words, my friend. I missed you too.🥰
