Haiku Friday – Flow & Tear

27 Jan

Flow and Tear are this week’s prompt words chosen by Ronovan Hester of Ronovan Writes.

Ron hosts a challenge that anyone could participate in called Ronovan Writes Weekly Haiku Poetry Prompt Challenge every Monday, and you have until Sunday to create a post featuring your haiku poem. He is an author and poet and also does author interviews and much more on his blog. Be sure to check it out. Read Ron’s Haiku Prompt Challenge Guidelines for more information.

I feel so desperately powerless as I watch my father rest on his hospice bed. He lies motionless except for the subtle rise and fall of his abdomen. He withers away day by day and is almost unrecognizable and yet there’s nothing I can do but wait for the inevitable. As my heart breaks I cry silent tears.

Your spirit is gone

And That knowledge stings my heart

Your colors are gone

And I no longer see you

Painful tears flow silently

I cry for you and for me

The funeral service for my father was on Wednesday. I must admit it was one of the hardest things I’ve had to endure and I’ve had my share of challenging experiences throughout my life. I feel like the winds have been taken out of my sails. There will not be a Friday post on Fri. 2/03/17. I apologize.

Have a peaceful and lovely weekend.

Haiku Friday – Tears & Wine

11 Sep

Hello and welcome once more to Haiku Friday! Today’s prompt words from RonovanWrites Weekly Poetry Prompt Challenge  are Tears and Wine.

These words reminded me of an experience I had the year my first book was released. I was celebrating the release of The Basement with friends. We were drinking wine and one of my friends decided to toast to my future as a writer. What she said moved me to tears and one of my tears fell into my glass of wine. I announced to everyone what had happened and was ready to toss the wine when my friend asked, ‘Are those happy tears?’ Of course I said yes. So she waved her hand and said, ‘Then it’s all good.’ I drank the wine after that.

Hopefully you’re still awake and I haven’t lost you after that story.

Anyway, that was the inspiration for my haiku this week.
