Happy Friday everyone! Welcome to Haiku Friday. Today’s prompt words provided by Ronovan Hester of Ronovan Writes are Fresh and Wind. Here’s what I came up with . . .
♦
♦
What If Mother Nature Wanted A Fresh Start?
♦
The earth would tremble
The sea would devour whole lands
Wind would rise to cleanse
♦
Existence of man buried
In Mother Earth’s new vestment
♦
♦
Ron hosts a challenge that anyone could participate in called Ronovan Writes Weekly Haiku Poetry Prompt Challenge every Monday, and you have until Sunday to create a post featuring your haiku poem. He is an author and poet and also does author interviews and much more on his blog. Be sure to check it out. Read Ron’s Haiku Prompt Challenge Guidelines for more information.

Nice one, and a little dark for a fine morning like this one… I like.

I’m glad you like it. Although, it wasn’t meant to be dark but real. What we’re doing to the earth sucks. I find the video to be inspiring and beautiful. 🙂

lifting her skirt – a fresh wind

I hope you’ll forgive a little (unsolicited and overly parenthetical but hopefully constructive) criticism (these things are so subjective and I’m not a tanka expert by any stretch of the imagination).
I have mixed feelings about it, especially the third line (partly because it’s unclear what the wind is cleansing if the land is swallowed by the sea). I like the imagery and word choice, but “The – would – / The – would – / – would – ” feels cumbersome to me rather than dramatic. Also, “devour” for me works wonderfully as a three-syllable word.
the earth would tremble
and sea devour whole lands
whipped by scouring winds
memory of man buried
in mother earth’s new vestment
(Reminds me a little of Stephen Baxter’s apocalyptic Flood.)

I didn’t mean all lands were devoured but some would be by tsunamis and such, and the winds (hurricanes) would clean the atmosphere, as they do here in Florida. I do get your point though and you did improve the flow significantly. It’s a much better poem with the changes. Thank you.

You’ve captured her power and also the restraint she’s taken in not starting over just yet. Maybe we will act on the lessons we’ve learnt and make her happy? Nice one Vashti! 🙂

Thank you! 😀 It would be to our convenience to learn our lesson and to start being more kind to the earth.

You have got a point there Vashti! She must be sick of the way we are treating the gifts she gave us! 🙂

I’m sure she’s at her breaking point. We need to take better care of the earth or else. 😉
