Welcome, everyone! Happy Friday the 13th!
I have several topics I want to address today, and it’s going to seem random. I apologize in advance.
Firstly, let’s talk about the coronavirus and COVID- 19. Unless you’ve been vacationing on the moon you’ve heard these terms before. The coronavirus has been around for a long time. It’s the same virus associated with SARS in 2003. COVID- 19 is the disease caused by the newly identified type of coronavirus that emerged in China in December 2019.
COVID- 19 symptoms include cough, fever and shortness of breath. Now, these symptoms are similar to the flu, and we are in flu season so if you have these symptoms call your doctor and let her know, but don’t go crazy thinking you have COVID- 19. Don’t automatically go to the ER without speaking to your doctor first because if you don’t have it the ER (emergency room) is probably a great place to catch it, and if you do have it you’ll most likely pass it on to people that are probably in a more vulnerable state than you are. Please call your doctor and act calmly.
There is no coronavirus vaccine yet. Prevention involves frequent hand-washing, coughing into the bend of your elbow and staying home when you’re sick.
The Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) has these suggestions:
- Wash your hands frequently and thoroughly for at least 20 seconds (about a round of Old McDonald had a Farm). Use alcohol-based hand sanitizer if soap and water are not available.
- Cover coughs and sneezes with tissue, then throw the tissue in the trash.
- Avoid touching your eyes, nose or mouth with unwashed hands.
- Stay home when you are sick.
- Clean and disinfect surfaces and objects people frequently touch.
I’m not a doctor, but I’ve worked in the medical field closely with doctors for many years. There are a lot of nervous people out there acting in panic, and that only makes things worse for them, others and people in the medical field who are only trying to help. You can calm your nerves by simply keeping yourself informed and by applying the 3 Ps: Positivity, Preparedness, and don’t Panic.
Let’s stay positive, but prepared, and please don’t panic it only makes things worse for you and others.
I also wanted to mention that someone sent me a DM (direct message) on Twitter asking why I only feature certain people on my blog. First of all, I’m an equal opportunity blogger and always have been. I’m constantly volunteering to host people on my blog. If we know each other, and you want to be featured on my blog let me know. Contrary to what some people may believe I don’t own a crystal ball. If you’ve never asked me to feature you on my blog don’t bitch complain about not being featured on my blog.
Lastly, don’t allow anyone to influence your thinking or how you feel about another person. Give everyone the benefit of the doubt. Before you reject, turn your back on or completely disregard someone because another person told you to do so, think for yourself. Judge someone according to the way they’ve treated you and by their deeds. Make up your own mind who that person is. Don’t allow anyone to do that for you.
Colleen’s 2020 Weekly Poetry Challenge (Synonyms Only)
Here are the two words selected by Ruth Scribbles, winner from last month’s Syllables Only challenge:
COMFORT & WORN
With painted on smile
she raises silent uproars
Once she brought you cheer
and kept you safe through the night
you happily held her tight
***
Now she’s forgotten
in a dusty li’l corner
wearing tattered clothes
recalling when a simple
hug could heal that broken soul
I had to laugh out loud at your Twitter IM. A blog is not an equal opportunity place of business. It is a place of creative expression. No one deserves to be on your blog and if you feature the same person every day so be it. It is your blog for heaven’s sake. Also, I enjoyed your Coronavirus message. If all the people who were panicked would take the time to read the recovery rate out of China they would realize it is only the elderly, those with immune system problems, those with existing lung issues, and those with an underlying illness are at real risk of death. For the 80% of the population who could contract Covid-19 and survive they ought to calm the hell down. Take precautions but stay focused on the real risk. Thanks, Vashti.

I wanted to laugh also, John, but I was indignant because I don’t think I’ve ever said no to a fellow author or artist who asked to be featured on my blog. Anyway, the people in south Florida are going nuts over COVID- 19. The supermarkets and pharmacies are practically empty of supplies. I’m sure a lot of these people haven’t bothered to read a single word on the subject. They’re just going by what they hear and following the crowd. You’re absolutely right, we should take precautions but remain focused on the real risks. Stay safe, my friend! ❤

Odd, I’ve never gotten the feeling that you only feature certain authors on your blog.
Maybe it’s because I’m a Libra, but when people tell me to ignore or break away from another person, it makes me want to get to know the person MORE, to see the good things in that person.

Thank you, Priscilla. That’s a beautiful attitude to have. I was never influenced as a kid to ignore or shun people so I’m certainly not going to be influenced as an adult. Have a safe, fun and happy weekend! ❤

Ha, ha! I love the #DevilAndAngel hashtag, Annette! It cracked me up. Thank you, my friend. I couldn’t be happier to know that I make you smile. It warms my heart. I truly appreciate you. ❤ Have a safe and wonderful weekend!

I loved your poem. It made me think back into the dusty days of childhood and antique memories. So beautifully done.
I experienced the insanity of Covid-19 craziness first hand today. Went to the grocery store for the first time since this insanity has erupted, and it was just that—insanity!! I’ve never experienced anything like this in my lifetime. The world needs to calm down!

Thank you, Mae. I’m happy you enjoyed the poem. I used to collect porcelain fairy tale dolls (little Red Riding Hood, Sleeping Beauty, Cinderella . . . ), but they’ve been put away in a closet for years. Sometimes I think about them and the joy they gave me, and I feel just a little guilty that they’re cooped up in boxes. Ha, ha. I think people are going crazy everywhere. I went to the supermarket a few days ago to stock up, and I was shocked to see so many empty shelves. I’ve never experienced anything like that either. I wish people would calm down and stay positive. It’s like the Zombie Apocalypse out there! 😉

Thinking about childhood pleasures in the face of this craziness is a nice diversion, Vashti, Even if those dolls are packed away (what a cool hobby you had!) the memories are easily accessible 🙂

Nice messages Vashti. I agree with John, a blog is our space of creativity and we are entitled to use the way we want to. Stay calm dear friend and keep writing. Nice poem.

Thank you, Balroop❣️ I’m definitely calm, my friend. Writing is my life and what keeps me sane, so I’ll never stop. I’m ecstatic that you enjoyed my poem.♥️

Hi, Jude! I’m thrilled that you enjoyed the poem. I used to collect porcelain fairytale dolls. They’re put away in a closet in their boxes so I thought of them.😕
The coronavirus has turned normally level headed people into maniacs. Are things as crazy where you’re from?🤦🏻♀️

What a strange message you got. I am the same way, if someone wants to be on my blog they only need ask:) If this person wants to do it differently they certainly can.
Yes, people need to know the facts for corna virus most definitely. I had to go out with my daughter and hunt down toliet paper for her…found it but it was out everywhere else. We ran into fear on peoples faces in the places we went and my daughter almost fainted when I took a cart and touched it. So glad you posted facts, thanks.
Enjoyed your poem, I thought of a doll I am deciding whether to keep or not. Happy Friday the 13th 🙂

Hi, Denise! Honestly, I was shocked when I received the message. I had to read it twice just to be sure I was reading it correctly. The funny thing is that I wasn’t aware that this person ever visited my blog since she never left a message or like.
The number of infected people keeps growing in south Florida and several people have died. It’s a scary situation, but we can’t lose our heads. As long as we stay informed and follow the instructions of the CDC and Department of Health we have a good chance of staying healthy.
My husband wants me to sell my doll collection, but I can’t bring myself to do it. A few years back I had built backgrounds for each doll to pose them and photograph them. The pictures turned out beautiful. I was supposed to use them to sell the dolls, but I never put them for sale. It was a fun project, though. The pictures are in my old computer I have to find out how to retrieve them.
I hope you’re enjoying your weekend! Thank you, my friend❣️

Thank you, Vashti. I hope your weekend is going well, too. I would love to see the doll pictures if you find them! Sometimes it isn’t time to let go….yet.

Common Sense and a fantastic poem.. I had a doll who was worn and dragged from country to country for years and was my best friend… hugs xx

Common sense is something sorely lacking in many places nowadays, Sally. I’m happy you enjoyed the poem. Awww❣️ It’s something how attached we can get to our dolls. Thanks for your visit and comment.🥰

Some great advice and a wonderful poem, too. Nobody goes crazy like Idaho crazy. My wife said there were police posted at the grocery store yesterday. Keep hosting people at your blog. It brings fresh eyes to your space and spreads goodwill among the community. I know I’m grateful.

Thank you, Craig❣️ I’m happy you enjoyed the poem. Of course, I’ll continue to feature authors on my blog. I would never allow someone’s opinion to deter me from doing what I enjoy.
Oh I don’t know, my friend, Florida crazy is right up there. Although, we haven’t had need for police involvement, yet.😅

Thanks for the positive post and tips. The poem was well done too and thanks for sharing it. Your blog is your own to express yourself. I don’t think you’re keeping people off your blog at all but you can choose who is featured for your own reasons all the same. Best wishes during this unsettling time.

Hi! I’m glad you liked the blog post. You’re right, I should be able to choose who I feature on my blog. Thank you. Have a fabulous new week! 😀

Wow. Visiting again after coming for Craig ‘s guest post a couple of days ago. Great advice about Covid. The panic and insane hoarding are ridiculous. I do work in a hospital and the medical professionals aren’t in a panic. We are prepared and cautious.
Funny (in a way) about the direct message. Your blog is your blog and no one else should tell you who and when to host. I’m also open to hosting people on mine, all they have to do is ask. I liked Priscilla’s comment. Although I’m not an Aires, let someone who has no authority over me tell me not to do something and it makes me more than ever determined to do it!
Nice poem, Vashti. Enjoy the weekend!

Hi, Joan! Thank you very much! I’m happy you’re back and that you enjoyed my poem. Yes, the medical personnel is working hard and keeping calm, it’s all the crazies giving them a hard time. My brother’s a doctor, and he told me that a woman came in to his place of work demanding the coronavirus vaccine for her and her family. My brother explained that it wasn’t available yet and she called him a liar. I was shocked when he told me.😳
I tried to keep a cool head with the person who DM me because I’ve always gotten along well with her, and I didn’t want to get into a huge fight over that. I did give her a piece of my mind, though.
Enjoy your weekend!😊💕

Every time I think I’ve heard it all, something else comes along to shock me. Can’t believe that woman. People are in a panic and not listening to reason. Hope your weekend is a good one.

The DM you received floored me. I can’t even begin to imagine what that person was thinking. Really! Oh well. You handled it perfectly! The virus is not good, but the panic is worse. I love the three P’s! Great poem as well and a great tribute to the dolls that once occupied little girls’ time for hours.

Hi, Jan❣️The DM was a shocker for me as well. It seems no matter what you do there’ll always be someone that gets upset about it.🤷🏻♀️ What can you do?
If you keep informed, prepare, follow the instructions of your state’s department of health or the CDC, and stay positive there’d be no need to panic. Thank you! I’m glad you liked the three P’s and the poem. Enjoy your weekend!💞

I love the poem, Vashti, and the info on COVID-19. You are right that people are panicking. There is no toilet paper anywhere in my area! LOL! I keep seeing my fellow Floridians posting that now the rest of the world can experience what we go through when a hurricane is coming. I’ve also seen so many memes that have been cracking up. Our schools are closed this next week, so I’m teaching from home. I’m just taking things one day at a time. 🙂

People get indignant over the silliest things. As you say, you don’t have a crystal ball–and even if you did, it’s your blog.
My grown daughters still have their beloved stuffed animal “friends.” (And all the Barbies are still packed up and living here!). 🙂

Vashti-Sis, thank you for sharing your views about the virus. I have some health issues, so guess what? I’m staying in and writing. We’re also doing some painting since we have to stay close to home. The craziness is here in Arizona too. People want to make this political and that drives me crazy! Anyway, I read through all the comments. You should have whoever you want on your blog. You own the rights to your writing and your blog. Some people just like to fuss. Now, your tanka poems hit the spot for me this week. I enjoyed your take on the prompt words. As always, hugs and love to you and yours. Hug Scribbles for me too. ❤

Hi, Sis! It’s become evident to me that the craziness is everywhere. That’s the best thing you can do. I’m doing pretty much the same. I’m hunkering down and doing some writing/editing and reading. I’m so happy you enjoyed the poem. Thank you, my friend. Scribbles will love that. Have a fabulous week! ❤ xo

Perhpas the person who complained about not being on your blog thought you paid in toilet paper. 🙂 It’s a hot commodity everywhere. Why toilet paper first and not food, is beyond me. Stay safe and healthy down there, Vashti, us Canucks are trying to hold our own, but who knows? The herd panic mentality is alive and well everywhere, I guess..
